I just read an interesting article on the espn web site about how JJ Redick is probably the most hated player in America right now. Honestly, I love the kid and have since I saw him in person last year at the United Center.
It got me thinking - who would you rank as some of the most hated players ever in the Mid-Con? It's always good to have a villain.
I know the chef will come up with some good ones.
My vote off the top of my head goes to Rasaun Young of Buffalo. I'm sure our friends from ORU would throw in a vote for Michael Watson, and Oakland fans would probably vote for one of their own, Mike Helms.
Northeastern had the guy who hammered Bryce in the Mid-Con tournament, but I can't recall his name.
Any current players qualify?

You're thinking of Daveeno Hines. And I knew you were going to bring that up!
Pretty sure Tony Vilcinskas would garner some votes in this poll.

How Ironic....Brandon Creason is my favorite opponent of all time. No question if this question was given out conference wide that Tony Vilcinskas would win by the biggest landslide since Reagan dusted Mondale. Marquies Barnes gets by vote. If there ever was a definition of the word Punk....he's it.

Excellent responses. Marquis Barnes, Chad Wilkerson and Eric Perry - that was quite an ORU trio.
I'll bet if Brandon Creason tells people now that he played Division I basketball, they don't believe it.

It looks like Creason is the head coach at Streator High School.

Without a doubt my "most hated player" award would have to go to Jeff Monaco from Southern Utah. Brash, arrogant, ball-hog, yell at his own teammates, trash-talk, act like he wanted to fight everytime one of our guys fouled him - just a few of his negative characteristics. My most memorable hated moment was when he and House were being interviewed on TV in his senior year immediately after SU won their semi-final game in the tournament. After being asked for his thoughts about playing Valpo in the championship game, he responded, "We all have to play three this year." A real shot at the advantage Valpo had the year before as the No. 1 seed, getting a bye in the first round. Then they proceeded to beat us in the championship game (I believe in O.T.). It still bothers me to this day!

It's all a matter of perspective....I loved Jeff Monaco from Southern Utah....but many didn't....I agree Barnes was a "punk", but thought Mike Watson was too....I liked Helms because I was sure Oakland could never beat us with him in the lineup.....You forgot the guy from Youngstown State, Camaso or something like that, who stomped on Bryce's chest in a game over there. After the game, Bryce's mom and the father of the Youngstown Coach got into a shouting match outside the locker room....he was a punk too...only played one year....but as anyone who followed the Mid-Con knows...if you take a vote of the league, our own Tony Vilcinskas would be by far and away the most hated player in Mid-Con history......it wouldn't even be close....

Sounds like Vilcinskas must have been quite a character. Sorry I never got to see him play. If somebody has a story about him, I'd like to hear it.
You can send me a PM. I don't want to tie up this thread with stuff most of you already know.

nkvu, how many players have you ever seen that riled up the opposing coach so much that the coach ran out on the floor to take a swing at the player? in the middle of the game no less.

Homer suspended him one game when the hostess from Ponderosa ended up in his room, slightly after hours.
