Mark hasn't posted a reply since June 18. Has he decided to not participate any longer or is this just too busy of a time during the year?
I have a feeling along with all his other duties he has been in search of a football coach for the last 4 weeks. We need to throw out some more ideas. You just never know who ML might be able to lure to Valpo if he just asks.

I had been thinking, gosh, what's in this tournament for us? Fine, Homer likes to play top teams. We get to play Michigan State. But couldn't we have played a comparable team anyhow, _and_ gotten guarantee $$? And instead we miss out on the $$ and have to play three games against decidedly lesser competition.
But, maybe that decidedly lesser competition is about the right level. At least for this point in the season.

They took Georgia Southern to OT last night, before losing. So, they could give us plenty of game...
What's our injury list these days?
Kurth presumably out with broken nose and concussion. Broekhoff likely out with sprained ankle. Little and Rogers still playing limited minutes with their practice injuries. McPherson apparently slowed by his knee, after all, when playing consecutive games. Johnson still suffering from sprained ligaments in his side (rib cage?) - maybe a season-long issue.
Wasn't the release of the schedule held up because they were having trouble confirming the teams for this tournament?
Maybe Fort Smith just filled a hole
This could be a definite possibility considering it seems that these tournaments are holding the semis and finals for the big schools that can sell the tournament, instead of letting the Davids have a shot to make an upset or two. In this economy, I have noticed this for tourneys like the one we're in, and I think the Preseason NIT was the same format? Yeah, it sucks that we're playing a provisional D-2 school tomorrow, and we can ask all the "whys" and "hows" and "whatfors" that we want, but if the contract we signed guaranteed us four games, then the group putting this tourney on was making darn well sure they found a fourth team to guarantee Valpo their promised four games, otherwise they could have been sued for breach of contract because we were promised four games, and didn't get that.

Why is this team in the tournament? They are a provisional D2 school. Last year they competed on the Junior College level, and this will be their first year playing as a four year college.

We have given up 80 points + to every D-1 team so far this year. It's just hard to be optimistic when it appears that we need to shoot lights out just to stay close.

I know of one positive from this game..from all the talk here, I'm glad I missed the game. Ok, maybe its only a positive in my book, but Troy, in years past, has never been a pushover kind of team. We happened to get a bookend in this game of Georgia Southern, a relatively new D-1 team I believe (?), and Arkansas-Fort Smith, which I've never heard of. Getting a game like Troy is our trap game going into Butler next Saturday, we have the easy games surrounding the game that we needed to take much more seriously than it sounds like we did. Oh well, we just have to watch for the trap games in our non-conference schedule, and we found that one jump up and bite us in the rear today.
