First of all read what I wrote...I said in the last few years. Oakland has won 6 of it's last 8. I did not count the early years of our move to D-1 when we went 2 and 4 because I said the last few years..Next I never said Oakland could compete for the Horizon title...I said Valpo's teams of the early 2000 nds could, which they could have for sure. My point is that everyone wants to knock our league like the Horizon is the big ten when the fact is even a team like Oakland who is less then a decade in d-1 has a winning record against the Horizon. Gary Waters team sucks and will suck again this year so for him to make ass nine comments about a team (Valpo) he knows nothing about is wrong. Valpo is very good, has been good and will be good in the Horizon. The rest of your league should get over yourself.

First of all read what I wrote...I said in the last few years. Oakland has won 6 of it's last 8. As I already pointed out in my last post, you are not 6-2 vs the HL in the last few years. You conveniently left out your loss to WSU in 2002. That would make you 6-3, not 6-2. Next I never said Oakland could compete for the Horizon title...I said Valpo's teams of the early 2000 nds could, which they could have for sure. Maybe YOU should go back and actually read what YOU wrote again. Oakland has played many of these teams and so has Valpo. Valpos teams of the early 2000's would have won or competed for the horizon title. The top one or two teams in the mid-con were every bit as good as the top of the horizon. It's starting from 3 or 4 that the difference takes place. Are you now saying that Oakland isn't one of the top teams in the MidCon. If you don't think Oakland is one of the top teams, I don't know why you included them in your discussion at all. In fact, one of the years you left out of your analysis was 2000. In 2000, Oakland finished in first place in the Mid-Con. Too bad you were 0-2 vs the HL that year. My point is that everyone wants to knock our league like the Horizon is the big ten when the fact is even a team like Oakland who is less then a decade in d-1 has a winning record against the Horizon. My point is very simple. Neither Valpo or Oakland have been very good against the HL over time. Last year Oakland was 2-0 vs the HL. Look at the teams you played. You beat the 4th and 7th place teams in the HL. In this century, you have THREE victories against teams in the HL that have finished in the top 1/2 of our conference. The rest of your wins are against the bottom feeders of the conference. That wouldn't make you competitive in our league. Valpo is only 3-7 vs the HL this century. You said yourself that in the early 2000s, they would have won the HL or competed for the championship. In 2001, they were 0-1 vs the HL losing to our 5th place team. In 2002, they were 2-0, beating our 3rd and 9th ranked teams. In 2003, they were 0-2 losing to our 2nd and 4th ranked teams. They might have competed for the HL title in 2002, but their record vs the HL in 2001, and 2003 speak for itself. Finally, I am glad that Valpo is joining the HL. I think they have a good program with a good history and first class coach. I am also on record on this board and at least 2 other HL boards predicting Valpo finishes in the top 1/2 of the HL this year. But you are seriously underestimating the overall level of competition in the HL. There is a reason the HL has traditionally finished ranked between 10-15 while the Mid-con has been ranked 20-30.

We would have had a very good chance of winning the Horizon in 2001-2002, as that was the year we were predicted to upset Kentucky in the NCAA tournament, though we did not of course.
Oakland has had good teams over the years, but even with that, I do have to agree with bigdwsu that the competition is a heck of a lot better in the HL! Though we had occasional losses to the bottom of the "Summit," our team was always at the upper echelon of the conference regardless. Anything can happen in conference play, regardless of how good your team is (how did CSU ever win a game lol?). Also, a trip to SUU was the worst thing I ever had to do in baseball, and I can imagine that is why our basketball team lost there every now and then!!!!
I predict a 3rd-4th place finish this year for us, but believe we will be able to compete for championships in basketball in the next few years. I like what we have done so far in the other sports against good competition, and can't wait for the season to get going!!!

How is Valpo doing thus far in the HL as far as fall sports go? Are u guys meeting your expectations? I seem to remember reading a thread here many months ago regarding the topic, but can't seem to find it...

Well, without doing to much digging I'd say we are holding our own. Maybe a little disappointed with Volleyball (two key injuries).
I just looked up the results versus Butler (weren't they the all sports champion??) and here is what I found:
Volleyball -- two wins
Men's soccer -- one loss
women's soccer -- one loss -- play them in the tourney Saturday
women's swimming -- win
Men;s cross country -- we finished 5th out of 9 --Butler won it.
Women's cross country --we finished 4th out 9 --Butler won it but we had the individual champion.
And of course, don't forget that we beat them in football also (I know, not a Horizon sport but still feels good to say!)
Overall I'd say we are middle of the pack which I'm guess is OK with the administration at this point.

We are 3rd in volleyball (picked 3rd), 5th in women's soccer (picked 6th), should get 7th in men's soccer (picked 9th), 4th in women's CC, and 5th in men's CC. I believe that all of those put us above the media/coach predictions!
