More playing time for Matt Kenney and the continued development of Ryan Broekoff will help the defense also.....Valpo's problem mainly in interious defense...we'll see if that has improved or not...if not, we will struggle again.....

I don't know if there's any way to launch into the subject gently, so I'll dive right in: I said this at the time Valpo joined the league and I think it's truer now than ever. The time has come for the Horizon League to expand its all-league honors roll to three teams. Look at the number of high-caliber players that were left off the all-league teams last year alone. I, for one, thought there was a very real possibility that one of the two Valpo stars would be consigned to the "honorable-mention" bin, the purgatory of postseason honors. Eli Holman, the league's most dominant interior presence, didn't even make second team! Todd Brown, Willie Veasley, Ronald Nored, Bryquis Perine, James Eayrs, Geoff McCammon, Jeremy Buttell and Robo Kreps were among the other notable omissions. Ask yourself this: were any of these players "honorable-mention-caliber?" Wasn't Todd Brown something like the ninth-leading scorer in Horizon League history? As it stands right now, nearly all of the 10 players on the two all-league teams are going to come from the top three or four teams. Can't the bottom-feeders have a standout player or two? I thought Sirlester Martin, as an example, was a very good small forward in our league. Your thoughts?

I don't disagree about he All-League teams, but I do disagree that Honorable Mention isn't worth anything. I think that in itself is an honor....but expanding to 3 teams wouldn't bother me...Either way to have your name considered should be something.....

I'm not familar with this Honorable Mention list you speak of. FWIW, UDM had a 2nd team all-league selection (Simon), 3 all-newcomer team selections (Simon, Keeling, Holman) and the co-defensive player of the year (Payne). That seems like enough individual recognition for the 7th place team in the league, doesn't it? I guess that also explains why Coach Ray Ray wasn't the coach of the year. Since we're talking about making changes, how about we go to three all-league teams and change the bogus "all-newcomer" team to an "all-freshman" team? Call me crazy, but if UWM's Mitchell Carter makes a contribution in his last year of eligibility (and 5th year of college), I can't get overly excited about awarding him a "newcomer" award.

I am not going to get into the predictions too much yet, but before anybody picks Valpo to win the league, or even finish in the top 3, shouldn't the goal be a winning record, something that hasn't happened in the last two years? It happened last year. You're talking only about 2 years ago.
