Another 1-0 loss. Did the coach really think scoring 4 goals against the Western Michigan reserve squad merited applause? A coach who sits and hopes is the worst kind of coach. We need a coach who will make the changes necessary to win. Everyone loves the coach because he is a nice man and says the things that he thinks we want to hear. We need a coach who is brave enough to make corrections and a coach who is accountable to the program .

Yawn - we need a coach who plays my son. Yawn. 7-7-2 overall with 3 to go for a program with 2 winning seasons in 25 years and one against a full D1 schedule last year under this coach. BUt forget all that... just play my son. Yawn.

With all your yawning KK it sounds like you are tired. When are you going to wake up and see that the team is 1 amd 5 in conference? KK, is your daddy the coach? Yawn.

No who I am is clear... I am a soccer alum that is proud of the program including players and coaches. Who you are seems clear too... a frustrated parent with a son not playing as much as you think he should. Let's get together at the alumni game and I'll buy you a beer. We have alumni games now too. Something else this coach has added.
I am tired, yawn. You're wearing me out. Go Valpo.

Are you kidding me. Another OT loss 2-1. This is the worst coach I have every seen. I am telling you, valpo should never broadcast anymore games. This does nothing for the program except tell new prospects to run away. Any u15 team can play with more consistency and control. Kickball is what they are being coached. These players are better than this and the coach has to take credit for the most disappointing season, a less than mediocre performance is being kind. What a joke!

Man that was quick Nicky! I just got done watching and I couldn't get here fast enough.
I disagree with about everything you said, but just my opinion. Sad for the team and the coaches. But I have to tell you, I have followed this team for a long time and this is the best they have better been in the ten years I have followed. Tough year, but you are overreacting.
I saw the game live tonight - and the football game and the volleyball game yesterday. Tough weekend overall, but a lot of fun.
Go Valpo.

Now that the season is over, I can say that I have to agree with Nicky. This has been a tough season for the boys and I think the coach has to be accountable for the poor performance. What bothers me more is that I don't see the coaching adjustments that one might expect. He's got a few JUCO players and some younger players that could have been used. I think the coach is too loyal to some of his starters who frankly have not done the job all season. I have no dog in this fight, just a soccer fan.

vudad, if this is what you call good soccer, then what was there before must have been rec soccer. Your perspective also helps me understand things a bit more. The coach has taken a terrible program and made it mediocre, that does'nt mean you rename the field after him. Just give me an example, other than your feeling about how nice a guy he is, of his strong coaching skills. What adjustments did you see him make as he saw his team slide down the standings and out of the tournament?

Everyone keeps mentioning "from where we came from..." as if were all that bad before. Comparing this coaches last three years with the previous coaches last three years you get a 7-12-5 and a 6-9-3 in conference play and a 20-28-8 and a 17-22-6 for total record. Not much of a difference to me. And, a last place finish for the conference leaves a bad taste for me. Well at least we took the games to OT... heck the football teams loses the game in the first quarter.

two things... first, vudad is female? maybe thats why her/his perspective is funny? Second... Growing pains? Invaders stats show no growth. Sounds like coach is putting lipstick on a pig. Hey coach, I have a bunch of corn to make your pig get bigger. Here is a lesson to learn, a pig with lipstick is still a pig.

I find it interesting that you did not mention in your analysis that the HL as a whole is traditionally a much stronger soccer conference than the former Mid-Con. Given this, comparatively and all things being equal, is a 20-28-8 record and a 17-22-6 record in the same ballpark? I'm not sure. Maybe, maybe not.

It's amazing that some people can be so praiseworthy when things are going well; but when things aren't going well (from an outside perspective) - everyone now thinks they have the right to criticize and complain.
How many of you on here have Division I coaching experience, pro soccer playing experience, or let alone even spend a significant amount of time at VU? Probably none - but yet you have this sense of entitlement and "know-it-all" attitude.
Flash back to 5 years ago, walk around campus, meet some of the soccer guys, ask other students what they think about the soccer program ---- flash forward to present day and ask the same questions. The program has gone through an overhaul for the better. And it probably wasn't easy considering the battles that they've had to fight to get to where they are today. The program now has gained recognition throughout the country. Every opponent that VU has faced has had mountains of praise for the team, staff, and program.
So they've lost a few close games...I can promise you that complaining about it and flaming the coach probably isn't going to change anything. Rather than roast the guy - let's support him. I saw the team play at Michigan and they looked great! The program under Coach Avery is still in its infancy, there will be ups and downs, and just because there are downs doesn't mean the wheels are falling off the wagon - it means that the program is going through some educational growth opportunities that will ultimately serve the greater good. Mike is a sharp guy from what I can tell - I'm sure he's well aware of all of the points you've all brought forth.
Sorry for the rant, but Coach Avery is on the frontlines of the battlefield, fighting every single day for the program and theres people on here flaming him from behind a computer screen.

Things like 4-0-1 in last two seasons against the Summit League should be ignored. We're mad! We want our sons in the game!

Anyone watch the game last night? The video feed on the Horizon League website wasn't the best quality but they still looked pretty sharp.
