This is for all conference schools, of which 7 don't have it. I trust that Valpo fans will be able to help others see the light.

Your're right '72. One has only to look at the photo of the seniors to see that VU is a team of choir boys. Hey, these seniors may be potential Rhodies, but football players they ain't. Go Valpo!

I'd support I-AA football at Valpo, when can we get a team? In all seriousness, if you're going to have a team make sure it's I-AA scholarship football, not glorified intramurals. Otherwise, don't bother.

Otherwise, don't bother. Just because we have been a complete failure for the last several years doesn't mean that non-scholarship can't work. Plenty of other D1 schools make it work. Try Georgetown, Davidson, Drake, Butler, and many other high academic schools. Scholarship isn't the answer. Getting kids who have talent is. Give Coach Carlson a couple of years. It is painful to be sure but I really do think it will work.

It is painful to be sure but I really do think it will work. Sorry, but I am going to disagree here. Exactly how many other programs offer scholarships out of the 245 that compete on the D-1 level. When I talk about being competetive, I am talking about competeting with at least a good portion of other 1-AA programs, not some self created conference designed to skirt the D1 rule that state you must compete in all sports on the same level. Why is the Pioneer League consistantly ranked at the very bottom of the pile in D1 football? How is it possible that so many other schools manage to make scholarship football a possibility, including tiny DII schools? Here's where these schools stand in the Sagarin Ratings... Georgetown-194 Davidson-238 Drake-219 Butler-226 Valpo-245 To put that in perspective, James Madison is 38, and fellow I-AA Big East member Villanova is 69

There are NO DivIII schools that offer scholarships....Period.....the reason we are where we are is because the NCAA doesn't give us a choice if we want to play Div I basketall. I thought this was understood....If it wasn't for the NCAA, we would no doubt be Div III in football as would the rest of the PFL

There are NO DivIII schools that offer scholarships....Period..... You are 100% correct, there are no DIII schools offering scholarships, but there are DII schools offering scholarships. My mistake. the reason we are where we are is because the NCAA doesn't give us a choice if we want to play Div I basket all. I thought this was understood....If it wasn't for the NCAA, we would no doubt be Div III in football as would the rest of the PFL I know you and I have been over this before, and we'll never agree. That's okay, it makes for a good discussion. However, I think it's funny that VU wants to compete on a D1 level in everything else, but hey, in football, let's just field a glorified intramural team. Oh, and with that glorified intramural team we're going to schedule YSU, a 4 time National Champion in 1-AA. Explain to me how that makes any sense? In other sports Valpo competes with the likes of Michigan, Ohio State, South Carolina, and Oklahoma but in football it's St. Joe and Franklin. Huh? Look, I am not expecting them to turn into Boise State, or even Youngstown State, but it would be nice to play a game against a real actual football program (a scholarship 1-AA team)and compete on the level which they are assigned to play (even if they don't like it).

If you are going to give the VU football program a pass for getting it's doors blown off on Saturday night because Valpo is a "basketball school", don't you think you should afford YSU's non football sports the same courtesy since Youngstown is a football school?
