Let's get out and support the team this Saturday. Marist struggled with Drake last week only gaining 77 yards of total offense and 7 first downs. Drake passed for 320 yards and ran for 113 yards. Maybe this is the week we play a full 60 minutes of football and come away with a win.

What do you think the odds are that Marist will get 200 yards passing or more after seeing that Valpo has given up 203, 106, 195, 399 and 230 yards in passing alone in their first 5 games? By the way Marist is 1-3, with passing yards of 98 (against Drake), 263, 251 & 402.

Not sure about your odds question. That is a tough call. I do know that there is a lot of new players on the defense that had a good showing against Drake. The only common opponent. Drake was without their starting QB against Valpo and he played against Marist. I think the bigger question is how does Valpo offensive line respond to open up some holes for the run game and keep their QB's off of their backs.

That's a harder question than I originally thought because I am not sure if Marist would keep passing if they are winning, or if they'll revert to the run game if they get a big lead. Valpo's rankings are as follows (out of 117 teams) #101 against the pass, #114 against the rush, #114 overall, and #116 scoring defense. For the record Marist is #18 in passing and dead last running the football. IF Valpo can take away the passing game, that could mean very good things from the defense. Can VU dare them to run the ball?

#18 passing offense vs #101 passing defense means Valpo better figure out some way to shore up the passing defense or the won't even be close enough to have a chance to win. "Tiny steps will eventually lead to Big Victories with the eyes always focused on the Big Prize."

Well, so much for daring them to run. Marist was averaging 31.75 yards rushing a game ranking dead last (#117) in all of 1-AA, and yet managed to roll over the Crusaders for 296 yards on the ground. Marist had gained 127 yards rushing this YEAR prior to this game. And for those of you who wondered about passing...254. Ugh.

Marist passed for 254 yards and ran for 296 yards. I think it's safe to say they didn't come anywhere close to being competitive and got their a** kicked in public...again. It's not like Marist is any good, they were ranked 238 in the computer rankings. Yikes Can't wait until that Youngstown State game next year

Are we really playing YSU next year? What is the AD thinking? Glad he got posters hung in the old gym.
We need football - but needs to somehow be more competitive.

Yep, they're really playing Youngstown State. I have no idea what the AD was thinking in putting that game on the schedule. I hope there's a buyout or someone comes to the realization that playing this game would be a waste of time for both schools. Youngstown will have to play backups in the middle of the first quarter and Valpo will get humiliated.

Well, Valpo dared them to run and Marist did for 296 yards. Then they passed for 254 yards just to add some misery. The team seems way way undersized when you see them on the field. At least the talent level is way undersized. Always remember though the teams Homer Drew had when he took over the VU basketball program. Does Coach Carlson have a couple of sons? :-) Joking in our deep depression. Isn't that a good sign?

A young man once wrote Martin Luther for advice. He was in a state of deep depression over the prospect of ending up in hell. Luther wrote back and suggested that he would feel better after getting drunk . If you're not Lutheran, Bluto expressed the same theology in Animal House.
