It looks like the writer of this blog has since corrected his mistake, as I read Wright State losing by five to Washington. I don't know how viable this blogger is, but he seems to have a little bit of idea of our conference, and it wasn't just bragging about Butler's run to the National Runner-Up.

Hey guys, hate to break it to you but, the guy who first posted this thread IS the writer of the blog! Overall, I think it is well written and accurate other than Howard bwing first team all conference! Finally though, a persn who recognizes Cory as first team!!

You're right, I messed up; meant to put Wright State, not Valpo, as the team that lost at Washington. Confused the 08 CBI game.
I will say this about Valpo: Cory Johnson and Brandon Wood are first-team caliber. I really racked my brains on Cole vs. Wood, but I went with Cole for his all-around game; make no mistake, Wood is absolutely worthy, and I wish that they had given me three all-conference teams.

I admire fans who put these comprehensive reviews together. But, at the same time, I'm amused by the homerism It would be fun to take some "fan" previews, some "professional" previews, blind them, and see how often we could guess the "home team".

Are you saying that "Dave E." gets his information from vu72's posts? Howard better than Johnson? No way. Mack better than Wood? No way. Our bench against Butler's? Not even close.

It's wheels within wheels around here. Always fun to guess the identity of the more anonymity-loving (closeted?) members. Always amusing to watch the press pick up "news" from the message boards. And good fun to spot the amateur and professional journalists who post for themselves! Two great tastes that taste great together.

For some reason I failed to notice it was you when I left my note at their website, otherwise, I would have just emailed you directly . I also wish I could have remembered the WSU lost to them by 5 last year. I thought it was well written otherwise.

Another Valpo guy calling Howard "the most overrated player in the Horizon League". nwitimes.com/app/blog/sports/?p=4564&cpage=1#comment-4398 Odd that Butler's been able to have any success with this stiff on the court. Despite his obvious ineptitude, Howard has been an important part of 89 wins, which interestingly is the same number of games won by Bryce Drew during his historic four year career at Valpo.

Despite his obvious ineptitude, Howard has been an important part of 89 wins, which interestingly is the same number of games won by Bryce Drew during his historic four year career at Valpo. Since I've been kicked around in a few posts on this subject, let me chime in. Neither I or paul Oren have said that Howard is not a good player. What I said is that Cory Johnson is better. Both players had great players surrounding them last year. Statistics just favor Johnson and the fact that he can hit the 3 on a regular basis while Howard never even trys a 3 only goes to support my theory. Now, as for Howard being part of 89 wins, that's great. Was Bryce surrounded by othwer NBA players? Nope. All you Butler guys think Mack is a lock for the NBA and last year you had this Hayward kid. Bryce had a nice supporting group of players. They played well together and won at key times. Howard has been surrounded by better players, thankfully, as he has spent most of last year looking on from the bench. Inspite of this fact, Howard has clearly been a key factor, I'm not trying to take anything away from his accomplishments. Again, all I'm sayingis that based on statisitics and their roles and importance to their teams, that if I had to pick one or the other for FIRST team all confernce, it would be Cory.

Fair enough 72 ... just checking to make sure you were still reading the board!
You think Valpo has more talented guys than Butler, and I'm quite pleased with the kids on Butler's squad, so we're both happy. Good luck! I'll be rooting for you guys for the remainder of 2010.
