You may have a fever, fever, but most of us are just "sick" about football. One possible cure for our ailment: KILL FOOTBALL,it's incureable.

Dear Milan, okinawatyphoon and other Valpo football naysayers, Do you know how many injured players the team has had this year? Lots. Then, there are those who have "disappeared" from the program partially through the season. Not many schools we are playing have had the share of problems experienced by this squad. Those are excuses that many other teams certainly have also. Poor poor excuses! Valpo is dead last in both offense and defense. That is precedent setting. You may have a fever, fever, but most of us are just "sick" about football. One possible cure for our ailment: KILL FOOTBALL,it's incureable. I also don't believe Valpo should kill the football program for good. Maybe as 89 suggested kill it for 3 years to clear all the current players from the program and treat it like starting a program from scratch. Give the football program a different nickname--something totally different to wipe out any memory of the previous football program. I like this idea more and more as it formulates it my head.

Listen, I know the football program is at the lowest level in its history right now, but to panic and stop the program is ridiculous. There is a proud tradition over the years of football at Valpo, several successful campaigns, a bowl game, two PFL championships. i admit it apparently has been hard to maintain the success for more than a few years, but to abandon it because we are in a low point doesn't make sense to me. Give the new staff a chance. In two years if they aren't at least competitive, then maybe you have a point, but not now. Support is what they need, a chance for a full recruiting class of the kind of players needed for this system, and patience. I think they deserve it....

Some of you guys are unbelievable. A program going through this kind of change needs support not bashing. Coach Carlson came in too late to do much recruiting and I sure is battling an awful lot of demons as he tries to turn this around. Do you play golf? Ever take lessons? First thing most pros will tell you is that you are going to get worse before you get better. And comparing this team to last year and saying things were better then is really short sighted. Coach Adams was a great guy, but there was no strength coach, for crying out load. Just that point alone should tell you where the program was at. It was never going anywhere. At least it now has a chance. And contrary to one poster's beliefs, most teams do NOT suffer a lot of mid-season defections, and some teams DO get hit worse with injuries than others, especially those that do not have a history of intense year-round training. I'm willing to bet that in two years Coach Carlson has this team winning 4 games, and improving frm there. Man, if you can't at least try to be positive and help, shut the heck up. Didn't your moms every tell you that if you can't say something nice, don't say anything at all! By the way, I have no vested interest in Valpo other than that I like to see Lutheran universities do well and I care about kids and coaches that are trying to do the right thing. I did not go to school there, my son plays football at a public university in Michigan, and I do not live in Indiana. I DO know something about football, coaching, and being part of both winning and struggling football programs.

I agree with rufus. VU football will come back, and it will be led by Coach Carlson. I just hope the same guys who routinely bash him, and his players, on this board will, when proven wrong in the near future, admit it...but somehow I doubt they will. It wasn't long ago Butler had a winless season. For several years Indiana State didn't win a game. Northwestern had a long, long losing streak in the early eighties. Out here in Iowa, where I live, the Hawks endured 20 consecutive losing seasons. Twenty! Each program bounced back. We will too. I have heard that Coach has recruited several fine players for next year and is in line to land several more. Coach deserves our support, best wishes, and encouragement. Let's give it to him. Paul

The talk about how we can't criticize football is ridiculous. No one can deny that we're the WORST team in division 1 football. Both on offense and defense.
I'm not going to sit here and clap my hands and pretend like everything is ok. These are adults who made the decision to represent Valpo. And they're doing a terrible job at it. At this point, you could round up a bunch of guys at school and roughly get the same results.
If you don't have the skill to play football, you better make it up with attitude. (See: Rudy) The team is lacking skill but more importantly lacking the fighting attitude. If they had that missing attitude, they still might lose every game, but they might put up a fight or keep the game somewhat close.
I like the idea of getting rid of football for a few years. At least you could start fresh with a new attitude.

My point before was that I was thinking the program should have been stopped a couple years ago. Can't do that now with coach Carlson in place. I'm confident he'll get it turned around. Two weeks from now, no one will be talking about the football team. Let them do their work in the offseason and see how things go next year.
