I didn't see the game so I can't have too many comments on how they played, but this was a good win. Again outrebounded, but some of that is masked when you shoot 47%. As long as the shots fall, the rebounding won't be as glaring of a weakness.

I'm surprised nobody mentioned how well Howard Little played in the two wins. He was really, really good in these games. I kept saying to myself, was it really Little hitting those 3's and making free throws? If he keeps this up, his last season could be something special.

I saw several encouraging things in this game: - No question, Howard played great at both ends. - We won despite BW and Ryan only getting 8 points combined. We have A LOT of depth. - The play on the offensive end was very unselfish. - As someone else mentioned, Erik Buggs did a great job running the offense. - Aside from Jay turning the ball over at kind of a crucial time toward the end of the game, his 6 for 6, dead-on free throw shooting kept them at bay. How many times in recent seasons have we blown leads at the end due to mediocre free throw shooting by our guards? - Our double teams on their bigs and were as effective as I've seen in the last 2 or 3 years. We actually looked like we knew what we were doing and did it with a lot of intensity, as well. If we would have done this against Ohio's bigs, we would have won that game by 10 points. Why we didn't is a puzzler, but at least we're doing it now. I'm starting to think guys like Eli Holman may not dominate us like he did in last year's HL tournament game.

Valpo plays much better defense and starts to win important games. It's amazing isn't it. Why it takes so long to get to this point perplexes me. I think the Crusaders now need to look at having some balance between emphazing defense and offense. The offense has fallen off but key "non-scorers" are starting to pick up were BWood and Broekhoff are falling off or getting double teamed and leaving others open for scoring.

Not sure how you come up with Broekhoff having fallen off....he had one bad game...BWood has struggled a little with his outside shot, but has done other things...All in all, both are playing pretty well

That is what Little did in the TAMU-CC game. It doesn't mean that either Wood or Broekhoff played poorly but that their point totals weren't as expected for a Valpo win.

nkvu, I agree with your comments about Howard Little. He seems to be overlooked by most of us. I've watched this guy in all of Valpo's games this year and some last year and he is very unselfish, passing up scoring opportunities to dish the ball to other team members. Perhaps that is why he doesn't have the offensive numbers that he could. I enjoy watching how active he is on the court. He battles for everything. Does the little things (no pun!) that helps basketball teams win but the things that don't show in the box score.

So far, his best year in a Crusader uniform! Go Howard!!

Not sure if this is true or not, but I've heard that Howard is much more confident this season since message board posters aren't calling for Halvorsen to replace him in the lineup.

No problem...everyone has an off game sometimes and it's good that there is enough depth this year to hopefully continue to pick up the slack. I think both have played well so far this year and although they may have had an off game, they haven't really had an off season.

Howard is a solid player and person and pictures from the vegas tourney show he may be growing into a senior team leader. Howard gets a lot of open looks over the past couple years. If he starts knocking those down consistently (so far so good), then that really opens up others, and makes this a high octane O. His hustle has always been there. Most consistent rebounder, esp for his size.

Don't look now, but TAMU-CC is keeping it really close on the road against #17 Memphis. 51-54 with 6 minutes left.

This isn't the same Memphis team that would run an opponent to the ground, and snatch the win away early. Now it seems to be a more patient, slowed team. I don't know if its a Josh Pastner thing, or something about still trying to fit his style into college basketball, but they seem to win with it though some games are closer than necessary.
