The game was a tough loss for Valpo, but they had a lot of players injured, and played less people than they normally would. They still almost won though, and the atmosphere was pretty good,” said Bielfeldt.
We all know what "pretty good" gets you.
On a more positive note... Max, if you are checking us out, Illinois already has a couple of guys on their bench ahead of you, and who is to say that they won't recruit around you if a great player is available. Come to Valpo and make an immediate difference in an up and coming conference!

It's worth quoting the whole paragraph. From the chicagohoops article cited earlier,
To be clear, this visit was the day after visiting Illinois - watching them play #1 Ohio State to within five points. He called Valpo's facilities "great"!

I know Illinois coach Bruce Weber is a good guy. But I question his ability to judge talent, based on the fact that he didn't think Rob Hummel could play for the Illini. That was the rumor from back then.

Here is what Virginia Tech's coach Greenberg said about Ben Boggs when he signed on 11/12/2008.
Ben Boggs is a senior at Hidden Valley High School in Roanoke, Va., where he plays for head coach Troy Wells. He averaged 19 points, eight rebounds and three assists per game as a junior, 16 points, eight rebounds, and four assists as a sophomore and 13 points and six rebounds as a freshman. He is ranked the #26 shooting guard nationally by ESPN.
“Ben Boggs is a fierce competitor and a winning player,” Greenberg said. “He has a toughness about him that sets him apart. He’s a hard-driving guard that has the ability to make shots. He is an outstanding defender and a winner in every aspect.”
“I get a kick out of people that question Ben’s quickness. I’ve yet to see a player keep him out of the lane. He has a tremendous first step and changes speeds and uses his body very well.”

The Times of NW Indiana stated today that Nick Davidson of Andrean has been offered by VU. Interest in some Big 10 schools - Indiana, Purdue, and Michigan. He is a sophomore 6'4" guard....pretty good player, was a main go to player as a freshman. lowposter

Lets hope some key recruits were at the game or at least watched it. That kind of atmoshere and game sure can't help but be impressive.

Wish Bielfeldt had been on campus this Saturday instead of last weekend. Hopefully he was able to catch the game on TV.

Wish Bielfeldt had been on campus this Saturday instead of last weekend. Hopefully he was able to catch the game on TV. It was on Comcast Sports Net in the Chicago area.

It would be great to have Bielfeldt and anyone else we're courting at Saturday's game - ESPN game, Dick Vitale, match-up against the top MVC team, packed house, rowdy student section, etc. We'll never have a better opportunity to showcase our program.

VU should get to a point with this recruiting class that a little higher caliber of player should be available. Nothing against the players on the team now...absolutely nothing, but...consider that our two leading scorers are transfers into the program and another player coming in next year is transferring. Wouldnt it be nice to pickup a Brandon Wood right out of Kokomo HS? Granted, he made the decision to go elsewhere and ended up here and arent we all glad that he did? But, as with Cory Johnson, transfers are a mixed bag. You get the player, but the transition time, plus using one year of scholarship is tough. Jay Harris is a great example of a young man that from all appearances will be a great fit for this program. At times he struggles, but he is going to be a fantastic HL performer, particularly as he matures (physically) and develops a feel for the college game. Matt Kenney - ditto. Excellent recruit that has made incredible contributions from day one. Ryan Broekhauf - do I say more? Granted, there are going to be situations where it just doesnt work out, but with the success that we are having this year, the recruiting should take a strong step forward. I strongly believe the strength and foundation of this program has been getting outstanding young men into the system and allowing them to develop, meet the academic challenges, and then move on to be productive members of society. It will be difficult to compete with an Illinois or a Michigan (if they offer), but there are certain advantages to being at VU and in the HL. Recruiting...what a fascinating aspect to the game. lowposter
