From what I understand from people who work with people at the NCAA headquarters (and they are extremely secretive) is that an NCAA investigator will call people at VT and try and get a good feel for why the student athlete is leaving. If they feel it is a hardship case and some situation that the student athlete could not avoid then they will grant the extra year such as the UIC player who's sister got sick. But if they feel Boggs is just being wishy washy about his college choice and there are no extenuating circumstances them Boggs will not get the extra year. 1 1/2 years from Boggs could still make the difference of an NCAA tourney appearance.

No matter what the NCAA ruling, he'll also have the option of sitting out all of next season and then having 2 full years of eligibility. In no way am I saying that's what is going to happen, but it's always an option with mid-season transfers.

Definately a option and from what i heard he may do. Can you imagine our team when all of our sophmores are seniors and we add a ACC player into that mix after he has had a year to practice/get used to the plays along with jay harris being a junior. The future looks bright! Regardless though, welcome aboard ben.

I'm told he will have 2 years and that the university is trying to get him a 3rd. I can't figure all this out, so i don't know if that's true or not. At some point, the university will make an announcement I am sure.

My apologies if this has already been mentioned, but I noticed that Ben was named to the ACC men's basketball all academic team last year. That's quite an accomplishment, especially considering how many ACC schools have strong academic reputations.

Ok, I will back up a little on this. I am assuming he would be playing next year in January. Perhaps not. Perhaps VU will redshirt him and then he will have 2 complete seasons of eligibility. I dont know which route they will take. I am reasonable sure that if he and VU wanted to, he would be eligible next January and that he would have 2 seasons, which would consist of January, February, March, etc of 2011/12 and a following year. Ok...so if VU chooses to redshirt him, does that count against the number of allowable scholarships they have (I think it is 13)? If that is the case, then you are expending a considerable amount of your productivity (1/13) on a non producing player...same as we did for Cory and others. Interesting situation. Lets see how it plays out with VU and the NCAA, but dont expect much from them. I have gone thru their proceedures and it is not fun. lowposter

my understanding is that they are trying to get this year disallowed and give him 3 years of play....I don't know how that would work, but we'll just have to wait and see. If he only has 1 1/2 years, I think that's too short to waste a scholarship, so I'm almost certain they are sure they get two years.....but then again, we're talking about NCAA rules, so who the heck knows.

In all likelihood he'd become eligible December 17, which is when finals end. Thus he'd really have one and 3/4 seasons.

Is this guy still on campus? I thought I saw him on the bench for the Butler game but have not seen him since. He is not listed on the roster.
