Let's not beat up C-town too much just because of CSU and their fans. Maybe they deserve our prayers and empathy. Please add willisbrown from the Butler board to the prayer list. willisbrown: If Valpo didn't trip tonight against Detroit (and I haven't looked in awhile) so I don't know, but I am guessing they didn't. It's Valpo's to lose. And really, with their schedule they should win it. I say we run the table and finish second. CSU 3rd and Milwaukee or WSU 4th. Regardless, at this point, goal should be to finish second behind Valpo. Get the byes and try to win this thing up in stinkland, IN. I just don't see Valpo losing twice more at this point.

The problem is people in the rest of the state think of Valpo as part of The Region, which includes Gary, Hammond and EC. Those three cities, obviously, don't have a very good reputation. The "stinkland" comes from the steel mills, I'm sure. It's OK what they think, Valpo's population increased 15 percent in the last 10 years so we must be doing something OK.

Hmm, here's what I got from the CSU comments: 1) Fair point, it's certainly not a foregone conclusion that Valpo beats Butler. 2) I don't know if 3 OT wins means we're 'living the dream', but again fair point on the close games Valpo's had against some lesser quality teams. 3) & 4) Valpo is not a big city and doesn't have a great deal of hotels.
And we respond with tired, retread comments about the city of Cleveland itself (not to mention its professional sports teams and the weird line about Cleveland not being a state)?
Lots of vitriol in response to nothing here, guys.

Yea, I have to agree about the very odd, "Cleveland isn't a state" comment...as if Ball is a state? Please.

Sorry if my attempt at humor was not up to your obviously high standards, but after all I am from "Hick Land" and we all don't know no better up here. Thanks for bringing up Testicle Tech by the way. The only reason to go to Ball State is because you can't get into your local community college. As for the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame. It does blow. A lot of the artists, bands they have let in are questionable at best.

So we can mark that off the list at least.

OH, on the hotels thing... Country Inn & Suites, Fairfield Inn and Suites, Courtyard, Hampton Inn, Holiday Inn Express, Super 8 ...yes, that's fewer than Cleveland... but not too bad for our fair city! For those coming to watch the HL tournament in March... I encourage you to check: www.indianadunes.com/

I guess my thoughts are this...it's good they are talking about Valpo and giving the team some respect, but it's bad (and expected) that they are bashing the town. I guess I understand though. It's the smallest city in the Horizon League and therefore has fewer options of stuff to do. Most notably nightlife. This can not be understated for fans traveling and spending a weekend in a town. Nightlife is important. Come to Indy when they're hosting well...anything. Broad ripple is usually packed, as is downtown. I know Cleveland had some decent nightlife in the flats, but my understanding is that's changed a bit since I've been there. The only other city that could be a worse host could be Youngstown, but that's for a whole different list of reasons. In the end, Valpo's the smallest city in the Horizon League, so it's understandable that nobody's in a big hurry to come here. Great place to raise a family, but I don't know that I'd want to use any vacation time to visit. Here are the cities in the HL Valparaiso Cleveland Dayton Milwaukee Indianapolis Detroit Green Bay Chicago (Loyola) Youngstown Chicago (UIC)
