From this mornings paper.. VU's starting guard trio of Betsy Adams, Rashida Ray and Laura Richards were a combined 2-of-19 from the field. "They put a lot of pressure on us," Freeman said. "(CSU starting guard Shawnita) Garland really gets after you. Everything became a little more rushed tonight." Freshman Tabitha Gerardot had a double-double of 13 points and 10 rebounds. Junior reserve guard Ashley Timmerman scored a team-high 14 points, but Freeman was disappointed with his bench's performance. "We need to go a little deeper on the bench, and that lack of depth hurts us," he said. "We need to develop more consistency. When we're inconsistent, it's very hard to make decisions about the team. You just don't know what to expect." You consistently hand out inconsistent minutes and wonder why there are inconsistent results. Oh and the starting guards shot 2 for 19.

Here are yesterday's nuggets...
"We had some good individual work tonight from some of our kids; we did a lot of good things on offense," Freeman said. "When you don't defend over the first 10 minutes, that makes it very hard for you to be in a position to win a game.
"We need to ratchet up our intensity. We have to find people that will make a change."
Since he continues to start basically the same people, he must not understand what his last sentence meant.
At this point is is obvious that either he: 1. Doesn't know what level of player is needed to win in the HL. 2. Can not recruit that type of player. 3. Can not develop players he recruits. 4. Is seriously overmatched by the other HL coaches. 5. Is way overhead by the entire process.
My guess, it is a part of most, regardless, it is time for a change. IUPUI will have an opening at year end. It is in the Summit, where he belongs.

Your missed one in the Times... "Three out of the last four games, we've defended pretty well," VU coach Keith Freeman said. "We just didn't defend (Saturday), and I cannot figure it out." Well, at least there is some honesty here. Brown scores 19 in the first half, most in the paint - but nothing changed (Maybe a line up change or a strategy of double teams on their stud who is scoring at will). Then Middlebrooks hits 6 treys in the second half and Brown scores only 9, 4 from the free throw line (Top scorer in the league). One might consider getting out of the zone when they hit treys at will (Second half). Why? Something was clearly wrong with Brown - the YSU announcers said she had a hamstring issue - she refused to drive when she had the ball and her cuts were not there when she did not have the ball. Isn't a man to man defense a strategy one might employ to combat effective 3 point scoring? No - it is blamed on an incorrect "stance" and communication. The system and methods of the ARC Wizard continue to amaze! indyvalpo - right on - a fresh start will benefit all; coaches, players, fans, and the level of competition in the Horizon League. That is a STANCE most everyone is hoping to see.

Going deeper on the bench won't have much of an affect when your 3 starting guards go 2-19. It all comes down to having someone steering the ship out on the floor. Your point guard doesn't have to score a point if she's getting the ball to others in scoring possition. That's not happening. And you can't run the possition by commitee from play to play either. There has to be a chemistry and flow between the point and the 3-4-5 possitions, and the 2 has to constantly be looking for their shot. The 1 and 2 can switch off periodically, but there has to be a designated driver. There just doesn't seem to be a flow right now, and the players are certainly not in any kind of comfort zone. I hope the 2011 class can provide the spark they lack - the potential is certainly there.

I don't think anyone expected us to make a game out of the GB meeting, and we didn't. We finished the game with 28 turnovers. That's really all that needs to be said here. it's been the story in most of our losses.

“I’m pleased with our kids and how hard they played,” Freeman added. “Our effort was there and we made a great deal of progress from the first time we played them.” Last time they played uwm it was a 73-61 loss. This time Ray hits for 21 and they lose by one (70-69); Ray goes 7-8 from 3 point range, hit 6 3's in the first half. Without the incredible shooting performance by Ray, this is the same result as last time. Would he still say there was a great deal of improvement without Ray's 1st half shooting - or are these desperate times?

On a possitive note, I had the pleasure of watching Mallory Ladd, next years recruit, put up 33 pts and pull down 15 rebounds to help send her team to the State finals this weekend. She's probably one of the best bigs I've seen in a long time. As I've been saying, this young lady is the real deal, and will certainly make an impact on our success. With her inside game, and Carr, the great point guard from Heights who, I believe was in the top 5 in assist this season, They get 2 more pieces to the puzzle that we desperately need.
