If I understand it correctly, the VU women still have a shot at hosting a game in the tournament....IF and it's a huge IF, they beat Butler Saturday, they can do no worse than tie loyola for 8th and 9th, and since we beat Loyola twice we would have the tie-breaker and host the first game. It would be amazing, but a just reward for how much better the ladies have played the past month.

Nevermind, I see now that the Women's Tourney has two "play-in" games between the 7&10 and the 8&9 seeds for its first round.

On the other hand if YSU beats Loyola and Butler beats Valpo, YSU gets the 9 seed and we get the 10 seed (not that it matters that much).

I think it'll matter, for the girls sake. They have picked up their play as of late and it would be a nice reward for them to end their season on a possitive note, with some momentum coming into their workouts for next season.

I thought Loyola had to lose both remaining games AND we had to beat Butler for that to happen. Is it just one they have to lose, or one to a particular team they have to lose for us to get a home game?

We just need to tie Loyola in the standings because we have the tie-breaker with them having beaten them twice.

That's the missing link. Thanks, rlh. Well, that would indeed be exciting for them, and a morale booster for the ladies. They really have stepped it up the last month.

They just lost their first of 2, so now they only have to lose one more.

Disappointing way to end the season. It was a tale of two halfs for sure. it would have been nice to see them get to Indy for a rematch with Butler. Thank you to the seniors for their contributions the past 4 seasons. I think coach Freeman wrapped it up for us: “We have a clear idea of what we need to do heading into the offseason to make this team better,” Freeman concluded. “We’ll take a few weeks off and then have the girls come back ready to work. We’re excited about what we’ve signed for next year and are looking to add to the roster in addition to the three we have.”
In my opinion, we have probably the best big girl I've seen, Ladd, and a very capable point guard, Carr, coming in to join the fold next season. Ladd led her team to a State championship, and Carr has been a proven leader since her freshman year. The top three concerns we have are floor leadership, ball control, and defensive intensity. I think we can better move towards improving these issues with the talent we have coming in. We still have some quality players on the roster, but what these two bring are pieces to our puzzle that we didn't have this season.

but it'll all be for naught if they don't ever see the floor...

Something tells me they will get some quality minutes next season. We aren't the only ones getting tired of losing. These recruits are capable of bringing to the team, a lot of what coach Freeman has been aluding to as "missing" all season long. Ball handling, court leadership, defense, inside presence. As I've been saying, we have talent, but lack confidence, which affects every aspect of the game. The players we have coming in make their temmates better, and more confident. If you read the write ups, they've done so their entire careers. They've finished their careers at the top in rebounds, points, blocked shots, and assist. There will be some adjusting to play at this level, but I think we'll be seeing some possitive results as early as mid point next season. Stay tuned.

Let's be honest, if the men's team in their first four years in the Horizon had a 38% winning percentage with 9 and 7 wins in years 3 and 4 plus no conference tourney wins despite two home games in four years, eveyone would be calling for Homer's head, and it would be appropriate. I can not believe that a few new players brought into a system which does not appear to work at this level will turn things around. Especially when the coach doesn't like to play freshmen. I could be wrong......hope so......doubt it.

I believe the system does not work because we haven't had all the right players we need to make it work. It's hard to run any system, regardless of where, if your ball handlers are turning the ball over 22-27 times a game. You can't settle into any system offensively if you aren't controlling the ball. Your point possition has to be able to handle preasure, see the floor exceptionally well, and get the ball to the scorers in a split second. That hasn't been happening. By the same token, you have to have the ability to block out and pull down boards to not only give yourself second chance attempts on offense, but also to keep your apponent from second chance attempts on defense. That hasn't been happening either. Better performance in just these 2 areas and we're a 500 team in my opinion. success breeds success. I know Freeman doesn't have a history of playing freshman many minutes, but again, I think he's getting tired of losing too. It won't take long to figure out these freshmen can step in make an emmediate impact. With the players currently rostered, I feel we can start to turn things around and get back on track. And I too, hope you are wrong.

Mallory Ladd could very well be Miss Basketball.
