For the league it may be best for UWM to win. Butler gets an at large and CSU and Valpo get NITs. Wright State can turn down a CBI. Detroit should then be offered the CBI chance.

Fouls: 26 to 13 Especially when two of the guys they picked on were possibly in their last game and were playing very well with the minutes they had. That killed us tonight. Also, we seemed to get away from the team basketball that got us here at times. Overall, everyone played with a lot of heart and they all deserve credit for a great season (That hopefully is not over) I think there was just too much adversity for these guys this game and it came down to a couple opportunities to hit miracle shots. As far as post play tournaments, I believe there is still a chance for NIT or CBI.

Yes a rather disappointing outcome. The REFs truly sucked in this one. UWM shoots 36 to VU 9 on free throws. The makes accounted for 24 of their points, 5 points for us. Nothing else needs to be said; those are the cold hard facts.. Good luck in the post-season, if we get a chance guys! You gave it what for..

I know there have been some comments about the ref's, which I expect from time to time and there was a big free throw disparity. However, I didn't think they were awful. Were there some missed calls, or some bad calls? Sure, of course. However, other than Buggs, did anybody attack the rim? I thought Valpo settled for jumpers way too much and because of that didn't draw as many foul calls as they could have. I thought the foul on Van Wijk in the second half was bad, but all told I've seen worse games.

My sense, watching the game, was that when we went to the rim and there was contact, we didn't get a call. when they went to the rim and there was contact, they got the call. How many times do you go to the rim and not get the call before you realize you have to try something else?

Favorite calls of the night: 1. The call that drew Homer a technical. Little got absolutely shoved, two hands extended and they somehow got him for a hold. 2. Three point play off of Wood down low when he was getting backed off the ball. 3. The tripping call on Buggs late in the game where the UWM guy tripped over his feet.
Honestly, that was the worst officiating I've even seen at any game. I know I'm still pumped up from the game, but that was just unacceptable. Having 7 fouls before we had one with half the first quarter gone destroys our game-plan completely. Defensively we were tenacious and aggressive. Getting guys into foul trouble that early shouldn't result in a close game. Just any small contact in the paint away from the ball or on the ball carrier would warrant a foul. We tried to take advantage of the whistle-prone reffs by driving it down low and drawing a foul, but they wouldn't give us anything. Several times our guys went up and got absolutely mauled and didn't result in a whistle. Milwaukee played into the reffs (good strategy) by flailing all over the place. Johnson tried a few times to do the same on the defensive boards, but wouldn't get anything. I'm very proud of how we hung in it and played hard. We out-hustled Milwaukee the whole game, and dove for loose balls. No surprise we were completely gassed in the last two minutes.
Milwaukee: Your school is pathetic. Seriously, a city of 600,000 people and school of 30,000 on a Saturday Night and you bring that to the game? 7,431 "fans" to be exact. You were loud two times all game. The time when a fan got ejected because he threw a HORIZON LEAGUE SHIRT back on the court (twice) and the foul against Witt (missed both free throws). You started chanting "sober campus" to us at one point. Do you guys even have dorms? How many people actually live on campus? I'm pretty sure the Valpo student section showed more excitement during school songs than UWM. And I think our pep band was actually larger than the UWM one, and you guys PAY your players. This is the semi-finals and you have the 1-seed. You guys don't deserve to move on because you have embarrassing support for your team.
Rodgers: Nice check at the end of the game. Clean too. Don't think it was a UWM guy flopping that time.
Ugh. Good season.

I think the refs had a bad night, but no doubt the impact of this is magnified in my mind because we lost. By the way, how we weren't blown out of the arena by 25 points is beyond me. If Milwaukee expects to win on Tuesday they need to man-up big time. They kept letting us hang around over and over again. We were gassed, the calls were uneven in their favor, and they still weren't far from losing. Maybe that's a testament to our strength as a 4 seed, I don't know. I do think we were legitimately the 4th best team in the conference, and I think what happened down the stretch is that we regressed to that reality.

What a disappointment!! The refs were terrible, but to be honest what good would more free throws do for us. We don't make free throws. Alright that may be an exaggeration, but with a grain of truth in it.
As far as NIT, there is ZERO chance of us getting a bid. Cleveland St is going NIT no doubt. I believe the loser of the champoinship goes NIT regardless. There is no way that the 4th place team in the Horizon league gets a call up when they can take a 7th or 8th place team in a power conference.

We were given a chance to win but didn't have the healthy bodies or legs to get it done. In the last 15 days we have Valpo with 7 games as opposed to UWM at 4. Again, I rest my case against an unaltered double bye.

Milwaukee is literally guaranteed a NIT bid because they won conference. I wouldn't be surprised if Valpo gets an invite. And free throws aren't the outcome of a one-sided officiated game. Our inside guys couldn't do anything. Milwaukee started getting easier buckets in fear of player fouling out. And going inside didn't seem to draw anything so Valpo relied on more jump shots instead of our swing it around and get an easy basket down low. I know we aren't top 5 at shooting free throws, but against Detroit we seemed alright.

A very exciting and well played game! I'm sorry that your team lost, but the game itself was amazing, and you had a very talented team this season. "Milwaukee: Your school is pathetic. I understand you are frustrated, but the attacks on our city and university are unnecessary. Especially on the band, of which i am a member. your band was smaller, but very talented. I was impressed. And yes, we do have dorms. about 5,000 students are currently in University housing, with another 5 at least living within a 1 mile radius of campus, myself included. Once again, Great season Valpo, good luck getting an NIT bid, i hope you do.

Refs were terrible, but hey that is the Horizon league for ya. I thought with 4 mins left Wood would carry us again but he did his best. Is it too early to say Preseason Player of the Year?

I just wonder if the powers that be might look for some way to create a Valpo-Baylor matchup. Could generate a game of some interest, but not on the stage we had hoped for.

There were definitely some doozies. I think Homer's Tech actually helped us a bit, but I don't know if it was enough. My favorite part of the evening was the fact that if you asked any Milwaukee fan present, they'd probably tell you that they were the ones getting hosed. At least that's how it sounded at times during the first half. I think it just feels that way because we lost. I don't think it's the worst officiated game I've ever seen. I'm pretty sure it was not even close to being the worst officiated Valpo game ever. I wasn't there, but someone who saw the Valpo-Stanford game in 1997 could confirm that. Now *that* was a horribly officiated game. If I remember the book right, one NBA scout said as much himself. I think the fouls were 45-14 or some idiocy. It gave legitimacy to the word "fixed".

I understand you are frustrated, but the attacks on our city and university are unnecessary. I agree, although the "Sober Campus" chant was idiotic. It's not even true, for one thing. For another, it's not worth making fun of even if it is.
