Although everyone in Youngstown knew Valpo was travelling to take on the Penguins in 2011 in football, we are a bit surprised to see the Penguins will make a return trip to Valpo in 2012 per 21 WFMJ-NBC in Youngstown.

WOW!!! That surprises me too...there's no advantage to Youngstown St. to do that...very dumb on their part...

We opted to schedule FCS Non-Scholarship instead of Division 2, so it doesn't hurt us come playoff time. Oh well, it's a 5.5 hour drive or a flight into Chicago.

I hate to see Valparaiso fans implying that it is beneath another FCS team to play the Crusaders on a home-home basis.
Since these two schools are now in the same conference, maybe they respect each other.

Heck, it'd be beneath these teams to come play at Valpo.

I understand that this is a terrible analogy, but fully knowing that I'll have my butt handed to me, I'll say it anyway. It would be like Texas going to North Dakota State to play a game at their FargoDome!!!!! It's a prestege thing...and fear too...it's the same reason why teams don't go to Boise State to play...*nods*

First off it was one "fan". equins is a YSU fan. I did have a chuckle on the "prestege" comment. This is 1AA football. I believe these guys play Indiana State every year which means a trip to Terre Haute every other year. I think they are already over the "prestege" thing.

Honestly, some of you might this as a bad deal for a game, but it could provide a good challenge with our new coaching staff and philosophy. We may see a competitive Valpo team again, and who knows, maybe it was easier for us to get a home-at home deal with them now that we don't have anyone associated with the Tom Horne/Stacy Adams eras, besides the one or two coaches that Dale kept for at least a year. I know I would like to see a game like YSU because it gives more of a game that can get us ready for PFL play, much like how basketball schedules some of the high-majors. Doing this same scheduling thing can be terrible at times, but I don't see this being so bad after seeing how things are going with Coach Carlson.

Get ready to play in the 20,630 seat Ice Castle! I hope to see some of you guys make the drive in. You'd be welcome at every tailgate in our lots!

It's not bad for us, it's bad for them...that's all I was saying. I just don't understand it from their point of view. They should just schedule another home game...why take a chance on suffering a bad loss. For me, have them come here...let's get a win!!!

I heard in the media room yesterday that it is not a home and home. We go to YSU both years. It's a payday for us. Since I haven't seen the schedules yet, I can't confirm, but that would make more sense to me than them coming here.

There's about as much chance of Valpo beating YSU as having popcicles fall from the sky, burst into flames, and then having the ashes turn into million dollar bills. :lol It's just not even in the relm of possibility to think VU can beat YSU. Let's just keep the margin within 60. We'll start there.

If you've never been to a game in Youngstown, it's worth the trip. What do you guys think of the new coach? I wish they hired a Mooney grad, but even though he's a Ursuline grad his resume is pretty good. Any thoughts?

I sure hope you are right about the Valpo series being back-to-back years in Youngstown. I didn't understand why we would schedule a home and home with a FCS Non-Scholarship program. If you've never been to a game in Youngstown, it's worth the trip. What do you guys think of the new coach? The Ursuline guy hired the other Stoops brother from Mooney though!
