It has to be tough recruiting for a non-scholarship school which has not won recently. I wonder what the strategy is? Seek out lower D-II talent guys who qualify for need-based aid and have decent academic skills? That has to be a very narrow niche. Most guys who do well academically probably can pick among the non-scholarship programs. How did we do it when we won the conference in 2000 and 2003? Maybe those were not the two years, but I know we won the 5-member Pioneer League twice in the not that distant past.

From the looks of their Facebook pages, both players are excited about coming to Valpo. Gabe has a good status up about Valpo and Kelvin has a shot of him in some Valpo gear as his profile pic. Good to see some guys excited about coming to play for the Crusaders.

I 'd like to get some of the guys openning the holes! I think I could have made some yardage on some of those plays!
I think you will be pleasantly surprised by the quality of the incoming class. We can't expect to turn this ship around with freshman but I do expect to avoid another iceberg.

Maybe we should look for players in the Aliquippa,PA. area. Great article in this week's SI on Quip football. Go for it!

I get what you are saying, but when was the last time a coach wasn't pleased with his recruits? I've never heard a coach say...man these guys suck but they were the best we could get.  Seriously though, that's a good thing and hopefully this can be the start toward being in a football game in the future. You have to start somewhere.
