nice opening post and breakdown, a3uge. I think picking a score before the game is kind of pointless. We all know that if Valpo shows up, they can and will win, big. However, they may have a Loyola-esque breakdown and lose by twenty. They are also capable of pulling out squeakers (several times), or losing close ones (Wisconsin road trip). Thus, I am not going to predict anything, but only hope that the Valpo team we came to appreciate earlier this season comes out ready to play tomorrow night. As I said before, if Valpo shows up, they will win. They did show up, and they did win. They may even be able to come out better initially tomorrow and put together a whole game for once. Only time shall tell.

Excellent job of spreading minutes around. Only Brandon played 30 minutes or more (31). We will still be leg weary, but not as bad as it could have been. By the way, I don't know how many times I have heard game announcers (including Todd, the ESPN3 guys, and others) say that Detroit may be "the most talented team in the HL from top to bottom." No question they have a lot of talent on paper among their starting 5 that appear to have woefully underperformed, but they are not a deep team. Their 5 starters all logged from 31-34 minutes tonight. I'll take our bench over theirs any day of the week.

This may have already been covered, my apologies if it has been, but what are our current NIT chances? Losing tommorrow? Winning then losing the championship game?

Great win tonight. Johnson played a lot better in the second half, but still took about five baffling outside shots. He did a lot better defensively, but still got pushed around a bit. That's expected with Holman. Wood was 0-7 to start out with and finished going 7-10 from the arch. He was unstoppable. He had two shots in the first half that were halfway through the basket and went out somehow, so I never doubted he'd get them to fall later in the game. We shot good from the line, which was refreshing.
There were quite a few Valpo fans there tonight. More students cheering for the white team than a typical UWM game (that's not exaggerating). The Crusader was there and on the court a few times. Definitely more visible than Detroits' (which isn't a good thing). We brought a pep-band that was fairly decent for the situation.
Detroit brought a few fans and a pep-band. Kind of weak. Their dance team "DT2" came out with a ghetto routine during halftime that was pretty humorous. Their cheerleaders were horrendous and I remember them dropping people on two separate occasions. There were some Univerity- of W.-: Milwaukee (WI) Panthers students at the game who started chanting "we want Valpo". Not sure that was good timing after Wood hit his seventh three. Probably the loudest they've been all season. It didn't last long, and I'm not sure anyone but me noticed it.
I think Valpo will get sweet revenge on the game we handed away last time. No need for a last second open layup. Might be more like the first time we played them. Go Valpo!

I quit reading these posts a couple of weeks ago because of all the negativity. I despise fair-weather fans, and there is no place, ever, for real fans to bad-mouth their own players--especially when the commentators know precious little about who's injured, has flu symptoms, is throwing up, etc. I watch every game in person, and never see lack of effort. And it is a lie to claim that winning is all that counts.
I encourage you to enjoy the games that remain, win or lose. It's been a magical, fantastic season, whether it ends this weekend, next week, or farther into March.
Yea, Team!

I am strictly against bad mouthing or booing amateur players and teams. However, sport - no matter which one - is a competition, the object of which is to do better than the opponent. Back in elementary school, it is best to have competitions that don't keep score (although there always seems to be someone that does) and is for learning, but after that the object is to win the game or race or whatever. Moral victories are not coveted by many players.

Oh, my gosh. Puh-leaze! This isn't my 6-year-old's team at the Y. These are Division I athletes receiving $42,000 annual scholarships.

Yea team! Are you serious? Yes I am happy when they win, but this isn't 5th grade basketball either. Being positive clearly isn't my forte but you should call it like you see it. If they stink up the place you have every right to say so just as you have every right to praise them when they play well

That's the difference between what you are saying and what some have done. I don't remember you doing that per se, but it has been done on this forum and it's just not right. These kids are playing as hard as they can and sometimes it just doesn't work, or they miss a layup, or a free throw...that doesn't make them bad people....you have to understand when you've crossed the line

Back to the game itself. Very enjoyable...then again it's hard not to when Wood goes off for 7 threes and 30 pts in a victory.
Win or lose against Detroit since joining the HL, I love the games against them. Lots of highlights, fast breaks, dunks, (the one by Blake curling the ball before throwing it down was impressive) and open looks. Add in the intrigue of trying to contain their massive interior. Plus, Detroit doesn't play dirty, or whine to the refs.
That Minnerath is fun to watch. I had a hunch he'd go off for a big game. Luckily their guards did not.
Good win. A tough team to beat three times in one year.
Take it to the Panthers!

Agree Detroit is a very scary team with huge upside. Many of us have said they are a bad match for our size so 3-0 is quite amazing.
I think we match up much better against Milwaukee and will win tonight. Cory's game better suited to Milwaukee. If Wood stays hot he is simply unstoppable. The rest of the team matches up better too.
Go Valpo!!

So it's okay when others write Go Valpo--which, by the way, just happens to be my license plate--but it's not okay for me to write Yea, Team?? Sheesh, some of you guys are just unreal. But the Team part is right, doncha know, because this is the most complete Team we've had in many years.
Yea, Team! (There, I've said it again! <Giggle, giggle> )
