Yes. I feel it's someone trying to make a big deal out of something that isn't. Move on to more pressing issues, such as the search for a new university president as Dr. Harre suggested.
Find something else to "worry" about.

I agree wholeheartedly! Seems like another example of "pc" at work. Surely VU has bigger issues to be concerned with than this.

People need to stop worrying about such things. I think the whole mascot issue in the NCAA is totally overblown, as it is just that, a mascot. You don't see Cowboys, Lumberjacks, Vikings, or really anyone else throwing a fit about being a mascot. Heck, I should throw a fit because my background is Norwegian (viking), and they always make them look ruthless.....please

This discussion was "had" and dismissed several years ago. Why is it being brought up again? Crusaders are also people who work for good and to better mankind as well as the so called Christian Crusaders who mounted the religious wars of the past. Let's get over it and move on to something really important. I would think someone popular and well read enough to become student body President would have more pressing issues.

Well, I think "several years ago" is a key phrase, rlh. A lot of us may have been around here at the time, but students come and go so it is new to them I suppose. But you're right, it's someone just trying to stir up something trivial.

As a student, i have seen that it has a lot to do with the "new breed" of students. Just four years ago, i was in high schiool, and things have changed immensely since i was there
There is a group of students that thinks the Crusader is not pc so they are on a mission to get rid of it...
Like was said before...there are a lot more important issues than this...

If they are that offended, they shouldn't have come in the first place... (to VU)

If Mbaye and Kone weren't offended (both muslims) then I suppose none of us should be!
the student body president is a very bright kid who was just written up in Business Week magazine. I suppose if we were given the chance to address the entire student body and faculty we would try to at least say something more thought provoking than refried ideals.

Are there any NCAA schools that have a Jihad-style mascot? Just wondering... ;D

I know that you are joking about that comment, but the big reason why there aren't any Muslim-friendly mascots in the NCAA is because this country was founded upon Christianity. I don't know if the universities have the same structures in the Middle East, but I am sure that they have friendly mascots to their culture. I will stop before I really get carried away, as being married to a teacher, I have to hear that our teachers cannot even correct improper "ghetto" language (ebonics) if they spell it correctly based on how they speak it.....

Regardles if the mascot is PC or not, I think it is a great time for Valpo to upgrade the mascot and even more importantly, the school colors. Why do we proclaim brown and gold as the colors when very few VU teams actually wear brown? With a new league, a new web site, a new president (soon), a lot of new coaches - why not jump in and introduce new colors and a leaner, meaner looking mascot?

Several years ago, there was a proposal to add red to the color scheme. Homer was a big proponent of the addition but it was apparantly rejected by the higher ups.
