Was anyone planning to host a NCAA bracket prediction contest on one of the websites for the Valpo Fans Forum posters? (i.e. cbssportsline.com, espn.com, etc.) Please make sure to investigate the website thoroughly before posting all the rules. I know I didn't last year and it caused some problems. I would rather defer to other posters who might do a better job of handling this.

if somebody knowledgeable wants to run it, i'd join. i think it'd be pretty fun. i did one through facebook last year and it was really fun to see some of the picks that other people made. plus, it helps me enjoy march madness that much more-it gives me more of a vested interest in what's going on even after all my teams are done.

Stl, you're right. It is the same bracket group as last year over on CBS Sportsline. It should be another fun time there.

If I remember correctly I must send you an e-mail invite in order to join the cbssportsline group for our posters called "Valpo Fans Forum" The password is valpohoops. No I wasn't hijacking anyones poster name. :-) If you want to keep your real name private then use a "fake" name and you may send me your e-mail address by private message so not all posters can see it. The scoring system is first round=1 point, second round=2 points, third round=4 points, fourth round=8 points, semi-finals=16 points and final game=32 points. Anyone want to change the scoring system? We could add the seed # to the weight of the scoring. Therefore if a 12 seed defeats a 5 seed in the first round that correct pick would be worth 1 point + 12 points (winning teams seed #) for a total of 13 points. If a 1 seed defeats a 16 seed in the first round that correct pick would be worth 2 points (1 point = round, + 1 point = winners seed #). If a 4 seed defeats a 1 seed in the third round that correct pick would be worth 7 points (3 points =3rd round, + 4 points = winners seed #). The maximum number of brackets you may enter is 4 unless someone would like me to change that maximum number.

i like the idea of weighting the seed numbers into it. it would definitely make things more interesting.

I agree with the weighted scoring because it gives that person who has done their homework on the brackets more of a chance to use their intuition on a game. The point based on round number is good for those "rookies" in bracket challenges, but there are some seasoned veterans out there who have been doing brackets since the beginning of bracket challenges and its time to let them have a chance to really shine.

You're kidding. You get to reprogram the scoring like that? I don't recall any bracket contest on-line allowing such a thing.

Yes, the admin has an option to include seed scoring. Which I will turn on now.

There's also an option to MULTIPLY the seed # and round points but I thought that was weighting the seed # way too much. I like giving the predicted upsets a greater value. It might cause more people to pick upsets if there is greater reward for getting the upsets correct. Play it safe or go for the glory. I believe playing it safe wins nothing. There are always upsets in this tournament.
