After the news conference last week where Valpo announced it was changing conference affiliations to the Horizon League beginning with the 07-08 season, I had read that after the conference switch, the Valpo athletic department estimated it would save in travel costs somewhere in the $75,000-$125,000 range per year, and that the travel dollars saved would be spent on the athletic programs. I'm curious if you have any thoughts as to what those travel savings dollars might be spent on at this point? A couple thoughts I had might be either facility improvements deemed necessary, or on additional athletic scholarships in sports other than basketball?
Congratulations on the move to the Horizon League!

We are estimating that there will be travel savings of $75,000 to $125,000 annually when we move to the Horizon League. It is our intention to invest the majority of that money in the sport program's operating budgets. We want as much of the savings as possible to directly benefit the students and their programs. Over the next year we will be working with each of the coaches to determine how the travel savings can best be used to improve their programs. For some of the programs it may be increased recruiting or new equipment. Coaches will now be able to schedule in ways that help their programs. Since no flights are required for Horizon League games a coach may want to expand non-conference travel in a way that benefits recruiting and national exposure. Future facility improvements and increased scholarships will need to be funded primarily through expanded fund raising.
