Mr. LaBarbera First, thanks for the time you take to consider and answer various questions from members of this board. I was wondering if you could provide any update as to the current status of the remaining phases of the FITT project. Would you be able to speculate as to any target dates as to when the football field renovation/improvements and new track construction might occur?

As you indicated the first phase of the FITT program has been completed. This is the new outdoor tennis complex. This was the first phase because the tennis courts needed to be relocated to make room for the new track. The second phase is the track/football field. Due to increases in local construction costs the total price tag for both phases is now $4 million. We currently need to raise $2 million to complete the fund raising and move forward with the second phase. This phase is important not only for our football and track programs, but also for expanding the recreational sport opportunities for all our students. This remains our #1 fund raising priority and we are actively working to identify those who can help us finish phase 2. University policy requires that we have another $1.5 million donated/pledged before we can move forward.

Is there any update you would you be able to share with this board regarding the status of the FITT project, and the remaining parts of the project that are pending additional financial support? Thank you!

Valpo staff and students received an e-mail yesterday from the President's office summarizing the recent Board of Directors meeting. That email stated that the Board "adopted a resolution authorizing the administration to enter into an agreement with McShane Construction Corporation to design, plan, and prepare for bids the renovation of Brown Field for use as a football/soccer/ recreational sports field." I hope this is useful information to you.

Thanks, crusaderguy08, for sharing the information. Sounds like progress is being made on the planning front for Brown Field renovations. It will be a great improvement for VU!

Crusaderguy08 is correct, the Board has given Athletics permission to design and put out to bid the new artificial turf field ( including a new scoreboard and lights). We are very close to having all of the money raised for this part of the project. With escalating construction prices we want to move ahead with as much as we have money raised to cover. We are working to have final approval for construction of the field by spring.

When is the new ARC sign supposed to be put up? I think it is supposed to be part of the unification of the signage around campus. I saw the specifications for it on the Physical Plant website. The current one is kind of embarrassing, so I'm glad they're looking to replace it.

My Question ; Is the Crusaders Club a Basketball boosters club or does it support all sports the same? I have seen them very visable at Basketball & some VB , but not much on other sports. Why don't we {crusader club members] receive regular communication , updates ,events , etc. from Them?

The new outside sign for the ARC appears to be in the process of being put in. Friday morning I saw a crane near the ARC and the old sign appeared to be gone. But it was from a distance, so I'm not positive.

The front section of the ARC had the roof replaced last week. The crane you saw was there to lift roofing material.

ML, when will the new ARC sign be installed? Most of the other campus signs have been installed, according to the PPS's website. I can't wait for this sign.

Here's an email from the Board of Directors. Sounds like this is moving forward nicely.
"Adopted a resolution authorizing the administration to enter into an agreement with McShane Construction Corporation to renovate Brown Field for use as a football/soccer/recreational sports field."

What about the track? Is this off the table for now, or is it something that might still happen this year? Paul

What about the track? Has this been shelved permanently, or is there some plan to put it in later, when funds are available? Paul

Everything except the track is being done this spring/summer because there is still money to be raised for the track part. It will be completed when the fund raising effort is completed.
