I attended the Volleyball games, and sat in the chairbacks. I found it very difficult to hear the PA announcer (even when the pep band wasn't playing). Is there a problem with the PA system?

Mark, We sit in Section D and have the same problem at times. I remember last year the sound system was turned up considerably at the beginning of the season, which seemed to really add to the atmosphere and excitement (e.g., Marquette). Thereafter, one person on this Board complained (the same person who now says he can't hear) and you agreed with him. Shortly thereafter, the sound system was turned down considerably and we all set there like bumps on a log for the rest of the season. As you know, it was the Marquette game that caused one national sports writer to name the ARC as one of the most difficult venues for visitors to come into. Also, in the aftermath of that game valporun or tex posted a thread on this Board about what Marquette fans who were at the game said about the ARC being a raucous place - but in an admiring way. Anywhere I've ever watched a sporting event, manufactured noise helps generate louder fan noise, which translates into a more difficult venue for our opponents and their fans. Let's take our conservative hat off this year and dial it up a few decibels. Let's do what it takes to become that place where Horizon opponents hate to come. As for those who want quiet, maybe they should try something different for entertainment.

We had many of the components in the PA system replaced last year. As far as I know it is working properly. We will continue to tweak the system, especially the volume, to find the best environment for the team's success. Look for a revised introduction.

It's sure to get the collective blood pumping when the regular season begins and we have our more representative crowds there!

The intro was OK, except the long pause between introducing the subs the starters. Isn't it tradition to announce the non-starters at the first home game only? If so, the "long pause" won't be an issue in the future.

The music we use for the intro this year was written by one of our students and does not have a title. We will continue to work on adjusting the volume and the entire system to see if we can get a better sound. Where you sit in the building seems to effect how well things sound. I do agree that the intro music needs to be a little louder. The volume on the webcast is a continuing technical issue that we are working with WVUR to correct. We now also stream the radio broadcasts through Radio One's (the parent company of WAKE) website www.Z1071.com.

A treasure trove there of Valpo videos. I enjoyed the video of Valpo beating Penn in the tournament.
Were you inspired at all by the intro music for the 2006 White Sox (which was shown as a related video)?

I know, of course, that the third part (not included in that clip) is "Thunderstruck" by AC/DC. But I would like to know the composer and title of the first part.

Fellow White Sox fans on the WhiteSox mailing list were saying it was Wagner, but maybe it just sounded like Wagner (Wagnerian?).
