This says a lot about the class of the HL, even if some of the schools may not be 100% behind the move.
For a conference to post results and news on their website and put a team in their prospectus that isn't even in the League yet, that truly shows what kind of people we are going to be dealing with.
On a side note, the recruiting advantage we may have in the HL over the Mid-Con goes without saying....BUT, we have beaten up on these teams in the past (including beating UWM recently), and that is going to be another advantage we have......."Sure, we're just moving into the Conference, but we're already beating those teams."

You guys will obviously be competitive with the great coach you have in Homer Drew. But to imply that you guys have an advantage because you've beaten Milwaukee doesn't mean a whole heckuva lot. Most of our teams have had turnovers this past season, so that means next season when you guys come over, our present teams will have one more year of experience and gelling together. I know this is degenerating into trash talking but I'll venture to say that you guys will probably finish in the lower half of the Horizon League- between 7-10.

By the same token, those same teams are going to have the advantage of knowing us already and being extra motivated to give us a rude welcome - UWM especially. That upset a couple of years ago probably still stings a bit.

I don't think that comment was "garbage" or "smack" talk actually, given that historically, as per the prospectus you linked, a team generally doesn't do that well in its inaugural year of HL play.

We have beaten UW-Milwaukee the last several times. As far as 7th-10th place, I don't think that is a very accurate picture given the fact that we only lose 1 player next year, and he is not much of a scorer himself. I picture us in the middle 4th-6th range in the Horizon first year, given our current squad & future squads with our new found recruiting tool (new conference). We always play teams of the caliber of the Horizon teams very tough, and come out on top more often than not (UNC-Charlotte, UNC-Wilimington, to name a few). I don't know what the Horizon teams think of Valpo, but we have changed quite a bit since those teams were in the league with us. From looking back in the record books, we were not good when a lot of them were playing us in conference. To even mention that we could be 9th-10th place is ridiculous, since YSU & CSU are terrible!!!!!!

I didn't mean an edge in playing...I meant more on the recruiting side...

We have beaten UW-Milwaukee the last several times. That's news to me. Perhaps you're thinking of a different opponent? Valpo beat Milwaukee last time thanks to a bad call and free throws with about 1 second left, but lost badly the time before that. I'm also pretty sure VU is 2-3 vs UWM over the last 5 games played. And as for your first season in the league next year, if your team can't finish in the top 2 or 3 in the Mid-Con, don't plan on finishing any better than 7th in the HL.

I remember that last VU-UWM match-up as if it was yesterday. UW-M came into the ARC riding high with a 6-0 record and an RPI of 11. We were also 6-0 (six losses and 0 wins). UW-M brought alot of rabid fans who stood in the lower mezzanine area directly behind the visitor's bench, obnoxiously yelling basically the entire game. The VUCrew soon took them on in an attempt to shout them down and before long the entire Valpo crowd on the south end joined in. By the time the game started, the atmosphere was electric! Our guys played with great passion throughout, withstanding UW-M's unrelenting full court pressure and even providing some effective pressure of their own. As driver said, it all came down to controversial call against UW-M. With the game tied at 71 and Valpo with the ball, Jarryd Loyd was tripped at mid-court with 1.8 seconds left. He missed the first free throw, then hit nothing but net on the second to seal the victory 72-71. To Bruce Pearl's credit, here's what he said in his post-game comments: "You don't win games when you get outplayed," he said. "You don't win games when you get outhustled ... It was a great lesson learned. It was just an expensive one. Rarely are one of my teams outworked." I thought he showed a lot of class with those comments, given the bitterly disappointing loss they had just suffered. I'm not at all surprised that he has gone on to bigger and better things. He's one heck of a coach, IMO.

UWM fans were like "new money" they didnt know how to handle the success that they had. Well, those days are past, and we'll have to see if they can rebuild, or return to obscurity. Hopefully, at a minimum they can play a tough schedule to help the conference SOS out.

Plain and simple, refs don't win or lose games.
At least Pearl was willing to say that his team was outworked and outplayed.

There we go, we had this discussion on another thread, where one play does not dictate who wins/loses. As far as what I am remembering about UW-Milwaukee, I must be thinking of my team beating you (baseball), as we usually beat you guys. I must be thinking of another team in basketball, though I remember the basketball game my last year where we dominated, yet still lost by 4 because of a come back.

You may well be thinking of the right team, valpotx. We haven't dominated them, but according to the Valpo media guide we have a 7-5 lifetime record against UWM. Driver wants to recall that we're 2-3 against them (if that's accurate) in the last 5 games. As long as we're picking and choosing, I guess I'd rather recall that we're 1-0 in the last one games. Humor aside, the bottom line is we've won more than we've lost against them. Both programs have a strong winning tradition, and like everyone else I'm hoping for a lot of good match-ups in the future.

I see you've met the most obnoxious fans in all of the HL. These guys don't care who they're next to...women, children, your grandmother- it doesn't matter. They try to spew out clever chants and derisions when a player is shooting a free throw, but they seem to try too hard. They want to be the Cameron Crazies, but fall far short. The VUCrew soon took them on in an attempt to shout them down and before long the entire Valpo crowd on the south end joined in. By the time the game started, the atmosphere was electric! Oh they can, however, rachet up the atmosphere! We'll see how they are when their team trolls along the lower levels of the HL!

I don't disagree with anything you've said. I just used the last five games to point out that Valpo hasn't "beaten UW-Milwaukee the last several times", as was said. Especially considering Valpo only won two of the last five, and split the last two games. That's all I was implying, nothing more. I too look forward to further hard-fought match-ups between two very successful programs.
