We hardly got to know UWM as they lasted one season, a rather poor .389 winning percentage. They were the fifth and final convert to the Horizon and had a real good run in the past few seasons (not counting this one). More so than any other old conference schools, Valpo has played the Panthers quite often since the exodus.

The thing about UWM is, I believe, the year before they were in the Mid-Con they had an unbelievable team. Something like 25 wins with a strong senior class. They lost everyone going into their one year in the Mid-Con.
The crusaderboy and I attended a game up there at the old Mecca Arena. For some reason, we were dropped off about a quarter mile or so away from the arena and had to walk. That day, it was something in the neighborhood of a 50-below wind chill.
I think that was the year that Kareem Abdul-Jabbar Jr. was on the team. His dad attended the game against UWM and he actually got a lot of playing time and did fairly well. UWM left the league because of its association with Green Bay, primarily.
