By 1994, the Mid-con was reeling after losing 6 teams to the HL and MAC. Teams were needed so they raided the East Coast Conference, perhaps the only conference even remotely as far flung as the Mid-Con became. One of those schools was Troy State from Troy, Alabama. They were very competitive in their 3 seasons with a .538 winning percentages but those three years were the 1st three of the Valpo dynasty, so no championships. They jumped at the first chance to join a conference in the south by joined the Trans-American conference (now the American Sun). Troy made at least one NCAA appearance from there. The sports there continue to grow as they now play big-time football in the SunBelt and have been to a lesser bowl. I
