Here is a good example of a school who had no business in Division 1. A commuter campus with no fan base, limited facilities and limited prospects. They were located in the midwest, however. Another ECC team, Northeastern lasted 4 seasons with a decent .576 winning percentage. They finished with the small fan base as they began which was minimal. In the end they dropped all sports.

Another team with a group of thugs led by Daveeno Hines, who clotheslined Bryce in the Mid-Con Tournament which led to one of Homer's more animated outbursts. Overall, they were pretty bad but always put up a good fight.

A sister school to Chicago State with the same board of governors and the same budget restraints.. NEIU tried to be competitive in the hope they could bring in enough revenue to sustain the program. CSU continues to operate in survival mode. After NEIU dropped out the top five players at NEIU transfered together to New Mexico State which was on probation and couldn't recruit. The formed the core of a team that won 20 games under Lou Hudson the next year.
Favorite NEIU memory was an overtime game at NEIU in 1996. Hines hit a shot from the elbow with five or six seconds left in the overtime period to tie the game. Valpo immediately inbounded the ball to Bryce Drew who threw a perfect length of the court pass to Bob Jenkins who caught the ball in stride took one dribble and slammed home the winning shot.

Interestingly, at least to me, Northeastern offered my son the SID job the fall before they dropped all sports. Good thing he didn't take it. He was the Assistant SID at VU at the time.

I don't mean to be picky, but wasn't this old New Mexico State basketball coach those five went there to play for old Illinois coach Lou Henson? I don't know who Lou Hudson is?

It wasn't Hines who hit the shot it was Andrell Hoard..I know because I got beat...I immediately inbounded the ball to Bryce and he advanced it to Bob...
