I have never heard a good explanation for the addition of Centenary into the Mid-Con. The Gentlemen are in their 4th season and have a sterling .271 winning percentage. The good news in Shreveport is that with only 8 teams in the conference this year, they make the conference tourney. Unfortunately for them, the conference grows to 10 next season. No one will miss this group.

I think the only reason for adding Centenary was to keep the minimum number of teams in the league for securing the at-large NCAA bid. I know that was a reason for adding Southern Utah back in the day. Well, that and the fact that Centenary is the alma mater of Robert Parrish.

Another Centenary alum is former Hawaii basketball coach Riley Wallace, who resigned as head coach of the Rainbow Warriors earlier in the season. I read that he was a Centenary grad in the story associated with the coaching changes page on espn.com.

The Mid-Con needs Centenary badly. N.Dakota State & S.Dakota State are in transition from Div.II to Div.I. This is a four year process that started during the 2005-06 season. Therefore SDSU & NDSU will not be eligible for the Mid-Con Tourney until 2009-2010. That means the Mid-Con needs Centenary & Southern Utah til at least March of 2010. If this is not correct please let me know.
