SDSU brings next year's Mid-Con to 10. Another school from the D2 to D1 independent to the Mid-Con. The Jackrabbits also have a solid fan base and could be competitive right away.

What??? I think they have 5 wins this year, and yet they will be competitive right away? I think you are confusing SDSU & NDSU.

SDSU's Men's Basketball team is wretchedly bad this season as a matter of fact this is the worst season in school history. However, there are extenuating circumstances the Jackrabbits have been missing 4 starters this entire season (plus some back ups off and on all season long). Of the players we have left, we have started two true freshmen, and a sophomore. Our tallest available player for much of the season has been 6’6” tall. Thankfully it appears that we will get our starting center and starting power forward back next year (both will be seniors), as well as some "Big Man" depth. Don’t let the bad record fool you SDSU is a basketball school. Both our Men’s and Women’s teams have won D-II National Championships (our Men's team appeared in 23 D-II NCAA Tourneys -- 3rd most all time) and lead the Nation in D-II attendance on many occasions. As a matter of fact our Women’s team this year is set to become the first transitional team to ever get an invite to the WNIT and has a current RPI ranking of #47 (with big wins over Middle Tennessee State, USC, Virgina, Kansas, Colorado, Alabama, and Minnesota just to name a few). Don’t worry about us we will be back. Here are some pics of our on campus home Frost Arena: Frost Arena (Cap 8,500) Men's Game Women's Game Close up of the Scoreboard

www.fortwayne.com/mld/newssentinel/sports/16845368.htm South Dakota State in position for a WNIT bid WAYNE ORTMAN Associated Press BROOKINGS, S.D. - In the NCAA nowhere land called transition, the women's basketball program at South Dakota State University has clearly marked the path to its new home. This team with a can-do attitude and one senior has raised eyebrows among NCAA Division I opponents, running up a 23-5 record in a strong schedule, drawing national poll votes last fall and awaiting a possible call from the Women's National Invitational Tournament. Stuck in a four-year transition period between Division II and Division I classification, the WNIT is the only hope left for a team that has played - and beaten - top 25 teams but won't be eligible for the NCAA tournament until spring 2009. "They're doing what they need to do to make a case for themselves in the tournament," said Renee Carlson, assistant director of the WNIT, which will announce the tournament field on Monday. . . . Good luck with this! I hope it works out for you guys, but it will be hard fighting the larger schools for NIT bids. The NIT is about making money, and if you don't have a huge following, you might get left off.

Quick story from the home state press, if you want to know more: www.argusleader.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20070313/NEWS/703130336 SDSU earns spot in national tourney Team is first to make postseason in D-I By Terry Vandrovec tvandrovec@argusleader.com Published: March 13, 2007 The confirmation came later than expected, but the achievement came sooner than most thought possible. The South Dakota State women's basketball team, in only its third season at the NCAA Division I level, was selected Monday night to play in the Women's National Invitation Tournament, becoming the first program in the event's 10-year history to gain an invitation while making the transition from Division II and the first team in any sport in state history to qualify for a Division I postseason tournament. One of 17 at-large picks in the 48-team field, the Jackrabbits (23-5) have a first-round bye before meeting the winner of Thursday's Rice (19-13) at Illinois State (20-10) game. According to the bracket posted on the WNIT Web site, SDSU, which submitted bids last week to entertain every round, will host a second-round contest at Frost Arena on Friday, Saturday or Sunday. . . . I know it is just the WNIT, but when you are a transitional team you take what you can get, the Jackrabbits beat Ill. State and will now host Indiana in the Sweet 16 of the WNIT. The Jackrabbit Nation sold out Frost Arena for this match up in a little over 4 hours.
