With one, if not the most impressive resume in college basketball over the last 5 or 6 years, can Butler really expect to Keep Todd Lickliter away from the likes of Michigan and possibly Kentucky? I know that he is a "Butler Man" and has been involved with the program for quite sometime, but will the high majors looking for new coach see a "system" or a brilliant coach who gets the most out of his talent. Look out Butler, getting to the Sweet Sixteen might be a double edged sword. The exposure is great for the school but could wind up costing you a coach!

If they see a brilliant coach they will be disappointed. He is a good coach who inherited a great system and has made the most of it. This system works at Butler and he knows what type of player to make it work. I do not see this translating on a bigger stage.

He's got a great house in the neighborhood but with Michigan money he could buy a bigger one. His son is just finishing 11th grade at Franklin Central HS this spring. The Lickliters actually moved to Franklin Township so their son could play for Coach Mark James at FC. Coach Lickliter and Coach James became good friends at basketball camps. Todd's dad coached at North Central HS for many many years and Todd played for his dad at North Central so it was a big move for them to switch allegences to Franklin Central. Todd also played at Butler so he has never left the Indy area. Todd's wife was a pharmacy major at Butler and works in the sister hospital to the hospital my wife works at. I suppose that means you can be a pharmacist at a lot of hospitals in the Ann Arbor area too. I think that it will be a really big decision for the Lickliters.

Of course there's always the Homer factor.....sometimes when you find a place you like, the money isn't as important as being happy.

I'd warn you to be careful about all kinds of hype because we don't know what may happen with this team next year, but this could be a dream season for the Butler Bulldogs. It could take a couple of seasons like this one in a row before the big schools consider taking a look at him. From the post about his moving to Franklin Township for his son to play at FC...it looks like he's a really loyal guy and there are few coaches who are really loyal in this money hungry move up fast in the world society we live in. Drop a lot of the hype and just let Lickliter enjoy being a coach, at least he's still got his head coaching job, unlike the laundry list of coaches who don't. This speculation should be saved for the guys at the Eastern Seaboard Production Network...although with Butler not being in the SEC, ACC, Big Ten or Big 12, well..Butler may stay on the outside looking in out there with the East Coast bias of ESPN.

At this point Lickliter's name has not been mentioned in any coaching searches. That does not mean things are not happening behind the scenes but that does not appear to be so.

And the answer is.... NO! Source: Lickliter to leave Butler for Iowa coaching job By Andy Katz ESPN.com ATLANTA -- Butler's Todd Lickliter will be named the next head coach at Iowa Monday night and introduced at a Tuesday news conference, a source close to the situation told ESPN.com. Lickliter will replace Steve Alford, who left for New Mexico last month. Lickliter led the Bulldogs to 29 wins this season, including an appearance in the Sweet 16, where they lost to Florida. Lickliter is the latest Butler coach to land a big-time job, following the footsteps of Barry Collier (Nebraska's former coach) and Ohio State's Thad Matta. Iowa is expected to release the news later Monday night. Multiple sources told ESPN.com that Iowa offered the job to Vanderbilt's Kevin Stallings, but he withdrew Monday morning. Iowa also spoke with Creighton's Dana Altman Sunday before he accepted Arkansas' job. Lickliter's departure could open the door for Collier, who returned to his alma mater to be the athletic director last offseason.

Lots of angst over on the Butler board. Guess he wasn't quite the "Butler man" they thought he was.

There was a "For Sale" sign on the Lickliter house in Franklin Township today. Those realtors don't take long do they? According to my stepson their were a bunch of signs on John Lickliter's locker (Todd's son) at Franklin Central High School wishing him good luck in Iowa. Next year John Lickliter will be a senior at Iowa City High School home of the Little Hawks. It's better known simply as "City High School." There's also an Iowa City West HS and Iowa City Regina HS. Last year they were 15-6 losing to Iowa City West twice, Linn-Mar, Cedar Rapids Xavier, Cedar Falls and Cedar Rapids Kennedy.
