Tough loss. It'll be hard to win the conference title now. Still, winning the conference tournament is the important thing, and you don't have to win the conference title to win the tournament.
Assuming Valpo can regain whatever they had when they were blowing teams out during the winning streak, and they overcome the Tulsa hurdle to win the tournament, do they have a chance for any higher seed than a 16 in the NCAAs? (or does any team from the Mid-Con have a chance for a higher seed, for that matter?) It seems to me that Valpo really needs to win a game in the NCAA this year if they want to attract the kind of talent that they need to continue as the dominant team in the mid-con. Otherwise, I see them slipping. Still competitive, but not dominant.

Honestly, at this stage (after the SUU loss) I figured the NCAA tourney seeding, if it is a concern for anyone other than the IUPUI poseurs is inconsequential. A win over a 3 seed is as fanciful as as a win over a 1 seed in the NCAA tourney. You're either going to do it or you aren't.
The only good thing about the season at this stage is that nobody, except the IUPUI poseurs have anything to lose. Anybody, including Cemetary and SUUK could win the whole ball of wax.

I agree that the seeding is not something that needs discussing at this point, but there's definitely a difference between beating a 1 and a 3 seed. There's a reason no one's ever beaten a 1 seed, and that still means a great deal. Maybe I missed something too, but why the disparaging remarks about IUPUI?

Tough loss indeed. Without having been at the game or seeing the tape, I'd say that our 27 fouls had something to do with the loss. One of the problems VU has had the last few years, besides TO margin, is our number of fouls per game. In close games, and especially tournament games, it is difficult to win if you send your opponent to the line too frequently. It is difficult to win a close game when the other team has 22 more attempts at the line.
I think we can turn things around for the season. We have to make our own chances for the title - win the rest of our games and get some help.

...I'm just wondering how ValpoRick and his ilk are going to come up with an excuse for how ORU was the reason you lost THIS one - did we slip Kampe your game plan? Secret photos of practice sessions? Laxatives in the pre-game meal? I'm sure Deputy Rick is on the case as we speak...

but why the disparaging remarks about IUPUI? Honestly, valpotentate, I've not seen IUPUI play yet so my remarks are unfounded. As for why; I think it's part jealousy, part disbelief (that they are as good as their record), part distaste for Hunter, and a huge part because their initials are so darn long.

The same reason we beat your ass by 20 points. Big deal - you won a regular season home game against your hated and short-handed rival. Isn't that just what you're supposed to do? You guys can hang your hat on that debacle all you want - it would appear now that you merely caught lightning in a bottle for one game, and you've been downhill ever since. Time will tell whether Oakland played BETTER than you did; you guys may have just played WORSE than a second-division also-ran - like we did at Western Illinois....

I'm not one to ever put blame on officials, but this was one of the worst officiated games I've ever seen at any level. Of the 27 Valpo fouls, maybe 15 were legit. And that's giving the refs credit. Now, the reason Valpo lost is because they played NO DEFENSE. The two teams matched triple for triple early on. Valpo went at least 6 for 6 early, quite a display. But Cal Wooten made EVERYTHING he threw up and not only did Valpo not double him, but they seemed to play a good three, four feet off him whenever he got the ball. OU, on the other hand, double teamed the HELL out of Dan. Oakland played well.

Why does this team not play defense?

Why does this team not play defense? I asked that question of myself and all the people sitting around me about a thousand times last night. And you knew Kone wasn't playing much D because he finished the game with only a couple fouls. Lately he gets anywhere near a guy and someone blows a whistle.
