At half time I was talking about how this was the team I want to see in Tulsa. What was the ratio of fouls called in the last ten minutes of the game? What ever happened to the crowd making so much noise to help the defense that the oppostion couldn't operate? Why was Jimmy, after not playing since Christmas, put in instead of Brandon (Brandon would have hit the bunny). Is there any coach anywhere that I'd less like to see win this sort of game than Ron Hunter?

Give credit to Hunter, he knew the Mid-Con refs didn't have the testicular fortitude to toss him so he got that T early. I've never seen anybody be so far onto the court and into the officials and not pick up a second T. I also believe this helped his cause (we did foul out 3 players, the referees must have heard some of what he was shouting). He knew how to play the officials and it worked. I would've liked to have seen Homer trot across the court aka Oakland a few years ago to possibly fire our guys up and swing things our way (both our play and be in the officials ear).

My son asked me, "Dad what's that line on the floor?" I replied, "Do you mean that short one that their coach just walked past?" "Yeah..." "That's shows the coach how far he is allowed to walk down the court."

To answer my own question, now that the box scores are up. Starting with 5:10 to go in reguation, I count fifteen fouls called on Valpo while only three were called on IUPUI.

Don't get on Hunter. He completely outcoached the entire VU staff. His technical foul was totally unwarranted in my opinion because it came on the heels of a completely unwarranted warning. Hunter was instructing one of his players (during a timeout) to go ask the ref why he was called for a foul. Hunter was out on the floor during the TO, motioning at his player, not the ref, and the ref misinterpreted it and gave him a warning. Well, that got Hunter off and he quickly picked the T up after that. By the way, VU outscored them something like 20-4 after the T so it wasn't like it was a great move by him.
The great move was getting into a halfcourt game offensively in the second half. He knows they can't play a fullcourt game against Valpo so he slowed it down. Valpo's staff tonight was as ineffective as I have ever seen a coaching staff. And you are right about inserting Miles. What message does that send to McPherson? By the way, refs don't call fouls for you when you pass the ball around the perimeter. You have to take it to the basket like Hill, Byles and Cole if you want to get calls.

Criticize Hunter all you want, but his players play hard every night and they do not give up. He is a crazy man on the sidelines, I will grant you that but he is also worth the price of admission just to watch him. You had better get used to him, because they have everybody back beisdes Coles and Byles that are playing decent minutues and he has 3 Indiana All-Staters redshirting this year as transfers.

I didn't say that he can't inspire his players or coach well, but I'd be embarrassed to cheer for a team that was coached by someone who behaves in the manner that he does. Perhaps its my own rearing that taught me to appreciate stoicism. Hunter's style is the antithesis of what I respect in leadership. Perhaps he can recruit well because there is no need to demonstrate control over emotion -- something I associate with maturity and civil society.
