Valparaiso will play its final home game this season against a rare opponent.
The school announced Tuesday that its Feb. 18 BracketBusters foe will be Niagara of the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference.
The game will not be broadcast on ESPN, but it will be shown on local television (WYIN, Ch. 56).
Niagara (7-12, 4-7 MAAC) advanced to the NCAA Tournament last season.
“They’re a scrappy team, and they’re very well-coached. they play very good defense,” Valpo coach Homer Drew said of Niagara. “They hustle. They’re hard-nosed players.”
Valpo hasn’t faced Niagara since Dec. 1, 1993 — a 90-59 Crusaders victory at the Athletics-Recreation Center.
The two teams will meet again during the 2006-07 season at Niagara, due to the BracketBusters agreement.
Valpo played at Butler in a BracketBusters game last season and will host the Bulldogs next year.
The Crusaders (11-8, 4-5 Mid-Continent Conference) have lost four straight games heading into Thursday’s game against Centenary at the ARC.
