Oh God, this is the worst rating system I have ever seen! They even put Texas State ahead of VU at #431...to give you an idea, my left pinky could get into TSU academically, but 3 of me could not drink as much alcohol as the average student there Looking further, they use 25% of the score based on Who's Who??? Give me a break lol, as I declined to be in that on the basis that people essentially pay for their way to get mentioned in something that is really not rewarding the truly 'successful.'

Huntington University #65 ranked higher then Wake Forest #69, Berkley #73, Notre Dame #77 and Duke #80? ? You have got to be kidding me! I know people who had no chance of getting into Valpo who were accepted into HU.

The methodology's definitely unusual:
1. Listing of Alumni in the 2008 Who's Who in America (25%)
2. Student Evaluations of Professors from Ratemyprofessors.com (25%)
3. Four- Year Graduation Rates (16 2/3%)
4. Enrollment-adjusted numbers of students and faculty receiving nationally competitive awards (16 2/3%)
5. Average four year accumulated student debt of those borrowing money (16 2/3%)
1 may be completely laughable. 2 may be hard to compare across institutions. 4 too. 5 is interesting.
Do they give the subscores anywhere? It would be interesting to see where Valpo fell down.
We don't do well on 4, probably, except Fullbrights. Not sure about 3 and 5. I suppose 5 penalizes almost all privates vs. almost all publics. I don't imagine we did well on 1.

I thought Who's Who was just another type of scheme actually. Pay to put your accomplishments in a book, and just about EVERYONE has the chance to get in there.

Who's Who means nothing. No one knows the real one since there are so many fakes....I just went through this a couple years ago. It's a joke.

Valpo is also #2 for "Best Value." How many years in a row has it been in the top five? Milwaukee School of Engineering was ranked 569/569 in the Forbes.com ranking. On the radio in Milwaukee, they talked a bit about it. One caller was impressed by the fact that it was above the hundreds of other colleges and universities that were excluded from list. But, seriously, to see your school at the very bottom of a list like that would suck.

Valpo is also #2 for "Best Value." How many years in a row has it been in the top five? VU ranked third in the quality rankings a year ago and has ranked in the top five in quality every year since 1990. Valparaiso was not ranked in the best-value category last year when the magazine did not receive needed data, but had been ranked in the top four in value since those ratings were initiated in 1994. Here's a link to the press release: www.valpo.edu/news/index.php?action=display&releaseId=3693&sy=2008
