Can anyone on this board provide some information on VU's projected freshmen enrollment for the fall? I was concerned the construction of the new union would discourage high school seniors from coming (the campus was really torn up last spring and summer, especially). The new union will be a plus, probably, for freshman enrollment for 09-10, but I hope it wasn't a detriment for this fall's class. Thanks, Paul

I would be interested in knowing, other then the construction mess, why you think it would discourage enrollment? I would think just the opposite. I think it shows a dynamic university looking forward to better serving its students!

i think the torn up campus more affected this year's freshman class than it will the incoming class in august. the campus was absolutely disgusting last year, but facilities cleaned up well enough to focus on one major project and not tear anything else up this year. that said, watch new fences go up overnight for me to trip on when i head out for class in the morning.

I know for a fact that applications for this current school year decreased, and the consensus was that it was due to the construction. This should turn around next year and certainly into the next as the union opens and the landscaping improves.

I don't think the decrease in applications (still about 7000) had anything to do with the construction mess. It is exactly why the Board voted to go forward with the Union. The fact is that the demographics are changing and that the number of high school seniors has peaked. All good schools will be fighting over fewer students and thus the need for top notch facilities and a sizable endowment. Hopefully the current campaign will address both of those issues.
