Checked in on the Hairy Union this a.m. and saw the frozen landscape - tough. Later read in the Indytimes that the whole length of the Indy Turnpike had been closed because of ice. Hopefully the game with Purdue will be iced too. We don't need another embarrassing defeat in '08.

Sorry for the abstract pictures. That always happens when it freezes or snows. The time has come to stop looking at the Harre Union through a lens and visit us and see the real thing. We officially open the doors Sunday, January 4, 2009, 12:00 noon. The real grand opening and dedication is January 131, 2009. If you are anywhere nearby and have some free time please stop by and visit us. We are finally opening the doors after 8 years of planning and over 2 years of construction. As an alum, friend of the University or a current student you will be very proud of the finished product. There are still items that need attention, but we will be open. It is sooooooooooooo exciting. Hope to see you and Happy New Year to all you Valpo fans and followers.

Been there. Verrrrry interesting! mrvalpo & I were impressed with the high quality of the facilities. One thing we noticed was that there were only 4 pool tables and no other games or leisure activities. We saw only 2 TVs. The Union manager said there would be ping pong tables coming. He said that today's students don't play video games unless it's on their own computers. What do the current students do for fun (and I don't mean Logan Jones type fun)?

The students play video games either on their computers or whatever video game console they own. The days of Pac-man and the other games you popped quarters in to play confuse these kids a little bit. I mean it was becoming the same when I was at Valpo from 1999-2004.

The games and rec. area will have ping pong (2) and foosball (2). We will also offer a wide array of outdoor recreational equipment and well a lawn games and equipment for racket sports. There will be two tv's for casual viewing, e-mail kiosk with digital information tv. We are investigating purchasing either WII, Play Station or X-Box. Students do not play video nor pinball games any longer. It cost more for electricity than what we generated from the games. The gameroom trend has just about disappeared. The game companies are finding it difficult to make ends meet and gamerooms have closed. Hope all you had a great New Year's Day and come and visit us and play a little billiards (by the way we only had 4 tables in the old Union).

as much as i like playing wii, that'd be a little hard to secure. i think xbox 360 or playstation 3 would be less likely to disappear.
