I just got my copy of the Valpo Magazine, which focuses on our new President and his family. Very interesting. I went to the Valpo Magazine website and found his interview which covers a variety of subjects including athletics. I'd suggest listening to all of the subjects as you will come away with an indepth understanding of this man and, I think, be very impressed! At the very least click on "athletics" and hear his position on Valpo's programs and facilities. Here is the site: valpo.edu/valpomag/assets/video.php?headline=Q%20and%20A%20with%20President%20Mark%20A.%20Heckler&video=hecklerQA

THANKS for the link to this interview, 72. I specifically listened to the athletics portion of the interview. I heard what I was hoping for from President Heckler. He said D1 athletics is important for VU, he said athletics can certainly be the "face" of a university, and he said we will be investing dollars in finishing off facility improvements that we are in the middle of (i.e. FITT and the track portion), along with other new improvements he has determined are needed. AND, he mentioned the arena (which I took for the ARC) for basketball, and investigating what is the best route to take to provide a facility attractive to recruits looking at Valpo, and also the fans for their game day experience. I got the strong impression that perhaps athletic facilities and improvements will have a little higher place on the "to do" list than they had before. IMO, this is the sort of thinking I wish we had back a decade or more ago, particularly when the "iron was hot" after the Sweet 16 run. Did others hear the same things I did, or did I just drink too much brown & gold kool aid?

I didn't listen to the interview (yet), but I did attend the 150th Celebration in Chicago after the UNC game, and President Heckler gave a very nice speech about athletics and praised Homer and the team who were there. I got the impression that athletics were very high on his priority list, as well as the dorms (which he mentioned many times before). The more I hear from President Heckler, the more I like. He is an outstanding person to meet in person.

Listened to the athletics portion of the interview... ...am I the only one who got the impression that, perhaps, a fieldhouse/rec center is one of President Heckler's priorities? Paul ps He is an impressive person.

I was very impressed with his comments throughout the entire interview ,do believe this was an excellent hire. On athletics ,I was happy to see him mention needs for woman's athletics & softball. As I have mentioned on other postings ,athletics is foot print of your university & a lasting one.
