The news is good for VU. This is the 2008 Nacubo study, which is done each year. VU had $199 mil as of June 30, 2008. Keep in mind this is before the big slide that started this fall. The $199 figure was a 3% increase from the year before. Most institutions reported a loss. Here are some of VU's competitors: Calvin College 101 mil, up 3% Butler 152 mil, down 6% Drake, 141 mil, down 7% Augustana, 110 mil, down 6% Wheaton College, 321 mil, down 11% St. Olaf, 325 mil, up 1% VU ranked 253rd this year, 263rd in 07. Not bad for VU. But we need to get up in the Wheaton/St.Olaf group. Paul

Talked yesterday(1-26-09) with someone from the Office of Institutional Development about VU's endowment funds. Sorry to report that we lost about 20% of our funds (nat'l avg. was about 23%) so we now have an endowment of appx. $160 million. We will need to cut back on expenses. So, where oh where will they be?

Don't know much about this but suspect we will "rebound" better than most because we are in the middle of a major fund raising drive and a good portion of that drive was focused on the endowment.

:thumbsup Hey pops: The NYT's is reporting today (1-28-09) that:"school districts, child care centers and university campuses would receive $150B. in new federal spending in the economic stimulous package." Wow! If passed,I hope we aggressively pursue some of that funding. $100M would be nice as would 10 -25- or 50M. Too bad we didn't invite the Pres. to the VU/UNC basketball games. He would have seen our needs up close and personally. Oh well, let's go and get some of our tax money to spend on Valpo's needs. Agree?

JJ-I'm with you ,I say lets get our requests in right away. Maybe it would be a good time to change our mascot name & we would get a boat load of the money. How's the Valpo Nuts[acorns] sound? :

:crazy You guys are crazy: First, let's change our mascots name to the NEUTERS since our men's athletic teams don't seem to have any b---s. Secondly,I did invite the Pres. using a third party resource. He alledgedly turned us down because he blamed the Lutherans for the Hmong immigration mess. Also Clint Eastwood's character in GRAND TORINO also blamed the Lutherans for the immigration problems. Like Valpo's men's athletic programs,The Lutes can't seem to win either. Now,let's go get some of the Stimulous Package money. Hope VU has a good "grant" writer.
