Florida International has hired Isiah Thomas to coach its men's basketball team. This story is on all the major sports websites, but is this a smart decision by a school that already had a sketchy history? I mean this is the same FIU that got in the big football brawl with Miami. Bringing in Isiah is like asking to hire a federal judge to the faculty, because his last reason for termination was for sexual harassment charges, how well will this play out in an area full of attractive college girls that think a bikini is acceptable evening wear?

I freely admit that I hold a grudge against Isiah for bankrupting the CBA and in particular the relatively successful (monetarily) Fort Wayne Fury, but come on people what are you thinking! :banghead Isiah Thomas does not have the Midas touch. Quite the opposite, everything he touches turns to lead and sinks into relative obscurity.

I just think that it's hilarious that Isiah Thomas has gone from coaching in the NBA's Eastern Conference to the NCAA's Sun Belt Conference. Forget trying to match up with the Boston Celtics or the Orlando Magic, bring on Western Kentucky, Denver, and Middle Tennessee State! :clap

Even as an IU graduate, I've never liked Isiah Thomas. it started when I had a less than pleasant exchange with him shortly after I graduated in 1989, and my opinion of him just kept going down from there. Ruining the CBA, the Knicks, the sexual harassment - what are the folks at Florida International thinking? I guess we can have fun watching him fail yet again.

Saw a headline saying he was going to give back his first year's salary, to FIU.

Saw a headline saying he was going to give back his first year's salary, to FIU. At the presser to announce him, they announced him as "Isiah Thompson." Pretty bad when you clearly hired him based on his name.

My guess is that his 'giving" back his salary had something to do with him getting the job. This way, they have nothing to lose...if he is bad, they got him for free

You wouldn't hire someone if you thought there was such a large potential of them being bad. Not only that, but asking (or implying for) someone to donate his whole first years salary back to his employer is a slap in the face. Most likely, is that Isiah is doing it as a publicity stunt. He's got plenty of money!

I totally agree from his standpoint '56, my question is would they have hired him if he hadn't done so?
