Just curious, but who's going to the 150th Gala Event? I am dying to go, but my study abroad program doesn't end soon enough. Also, I would turn 21 a WEEK after, so I wouldn't be able to go anyway. John Lithgow should be fantastic, and they're revealing a new South Shore poster dedicated to VU!! I can't wait to see it!

So how was the event? The news articles sound very positive. Something I thought was strange though was the wording of two of the articles about Jon Lithgow. Maybe someone who was there can tell me the truth.
From the Chicago Tribune: "The Harvard University graduate (Lithgow) told the gathering that he had just learned that Valparaiso University is sometimes called "the Harvard of the Midwest."
From the Post-Tribune: "At the dinner, Lithgow noted that Valparaiso is known to many as the "Harvard of the Midwest."
So my question is, did has he ALWAYS known that Valpo is considered to be the Harvard of the Midwest or did he just find out, like the Chicago Tribune noted?

If Valpo is the Harvard of the MW,where does that leave the likes of ND,Northwestern,Chicago,Michigan,Carlton and other great MW universities?

So my question is, did has he ALWAYS known that Valpo is considered to be the Harvard of the Midwest or did he just find out, like the Chicago Tribune noted? I was there. Let me start by saying that the event was FANTASTIC from start to finish with everything from the food, to the wine to the entertainment to the environment being as fine as anything I've ever experienced. Truly first class. As for Mr. Lithgow, my recollection is that while doing his research for the event he discovered that Valpo had been known as "The Harvard of the Midwest" (this is primarily because in the early 1900's Valpo was second in enrollment nationally to only Harvard) Lithgow then brought the house down when he added that he found this highly ironic as he went to Harvard and they always thought of themselves as "the Valparaiso of New England"!! :lol While of campus I had the chance to stop by the ARC and visit with Homer, Bryce and Mark LaBarbera. I also met Cory Johnson and watched the team (most of them) scrimmage with a new recruit. If this guy comes it will really help the inside game as he is 6'9" and 255 lbs. I think that's about all I should say--not sure. I will tell you that Cory Johnson is indeed the real deal. He will definitely be a force in the Horizon. It was truly a memorable experience all around!

I was going to drive by and look at the tent on the football field, but I got busy and forgot. From the articles I've seen, it sounded impressive.
