...would you want to see VU complete over the next 10 years? In the past 10 years, VU has constructed a new union, library, geography and meterology building, the German house, south loop entrance and road, north loop entrance (the road is partially complete), softball field, parking garage, and tennis courts. There are probably other projects out there that just don't come to mind right now. The projects don't necessarily have to be huge ones like the libary and union. For instance, I would be very pleased if VU would put in the "Chapel Commons" area between the Chapel, Union, and VUCA. I think that would add a lot to campus. There are a couple of things in the works, like the Gellersen renovation and addition, so I won't include that in my wish list. So here is my list, in no particular order of preference: 1. Chapel Commons Area 2. Education, History, and English building 3. Fitness Center (not the old bookstore, a BIG one attached to the ARC) 4. Neils Science Renovation and Addition 5. One new dorm I'm probably one of the few on this board that does not support an expansion of the ARC. Paul

1. upgrades to neils 2. modernize (or replace if necessary) the four dorms along la porte ave: scheele, lankenau, alumni, and brandt. 3. new education building 4. renovations/replacement to the arena in the arc 5. chapel commons (including removal of the remaining piece of curbing outside the chapel)
and an honorable mention to: sidewalk improvements/replacements, and resurfacing of campus drive south of lankenau/scheele

1. Upgrade and Expansion of Neil's Science Center or new building altogether
2. Completely gut and redo Scheele, Lankenau, Alumni, and Brandt. Expand the rooms and add air conditioning. Create bigger and better rooms and allow juniors to be able to live off campus. Nothing pissed me off more as a student than being required to pay ~3k a semester to live in the dorms for three years (two of which were in Alumni and Brandt).
3. Fieldhouse attachment to ARC with indoor track and increased recreation/workout facilities for non-intercollegiate athlete students
4. Modernization of the ARC to create bowl type seating arrangement
5. Education/History/English building

I've been told that President Harre had different priorities than President Heckler. For one thing, when our new President saw the dorms he moved renovation to the top of the list. He has said in other interviews that improved basketball facilities are also very important. So, I'm guessing the list will look like this: 1. Renovated dorms 2. Improved Neils 3. Education building I'll want to see how the new workout building looks before I will want to add a new and different facility. Seems like the University isn't going to redo that building with the idea of replacing it in the near future. Whether or not Heugli stays is up for grabs. It needs a major renovation or removal. It sits in a very large area that could well be reconfigured to include a new education building or even a new Nursing school as the current one is off the beaten path. Athletically, I would want to see a renovated ARC to include probably 6000 seats, bowl like seating with a club room of some sort and much improved food and beverage facilities. The next thing is the track (maybe first), which has money raised, just not enough. It will really add to the feel of Brown field and make it more of a big time place. Of course it would be nice at some point to add locker rooms and rest rooms as well as better food and beverage facilities also to Brown. Gelersen is under way and will really improve the engineering school. There is an endless list of needs at any college. Give it a couple of years and the money raise will be underway again.

I generally agree with most posters here. I think the Chapel Commons project, the new track, a new general purpose classroom building (for things like English, Economics, History, Political Science, etc), and a renovated ARC should be at the top. As far as Huegli, I can pretty much guarantee it will be torn down in the near future. Plans are for a "faculty building" of sorts, I think. But a lot of stuff is still up in the air.
