I don't watch too much pro football anymore since the games are too long (2008 average length: 3 hours, 15 minutes; 1970 average length: 2 hours, 30 minutes), but I will say the throwback uniforms worn tonight by the Patriots and Buffalo Bills are pretty cool. Why don't they wear those old style uniforms all the time? Reminds me for some reason of the 1968 VU baseball team, which wore white and blue. SInce they were undefeated in league play and were probably the greatest team in VU history, my question is: why don't they wear blue and white now? Might be better than, uh, brown and gold. Paul

The unis that New England and Buffalo wore on Monday night are from their AFL days. The NFL installed an "AFL Legacy" program this season as a way of celebrating this being 50 years since the AFL came into existence, so all original AFL teams and any teams that were in the AFL will wear these throwbacks when they face one another. The teams that exist in the NFL but had a different AFL name will resurrect those unis and names when they face each other as well. The officials will also wear the orange-striped uniforms on the field. I think it is a really cool way to remember the league that tried to over take the NFL, but just ended up merging as the years went on.
