The NY Daily News has reported the ND's Weis has been terminated. He will be meeting with his players this pm before the official announcement is made. Shucks! I like when ND goes 6-6. Bob Stoops?

I admit, I'm sad to Charlie Weiss go, but the guy might know how to coach the sport, but he couldn't recruit to save his life! If you look at his 5 years in South Bend, the first two years were with Ty Willingham recruits, for the most part, after we started to see more Charlie Weiss recruits playing, you saw that he might have been able to bring in some good name players, but they just couldn't cut it in the sort of offense that he was running. He might be able to build a good number of people to his roster, but he couldn't seem to get the most out of them in his offensive scheme. Oh well, like we all know, he'll be hired on as OC in someone's NFL coaching staff in the next month...

ESPN Class Recruiting Rankings2009: 14th 2008: 9th 2007: 8th 2006: 5th Now, if you want to argue that he hasn't developed the talent that he has brought in, that would make sense! You can't say, however, that he couldn't recruit, especially when you consider the crap-hole NWI area that he is recruiting to and the academic requirements that he has to battle against.

ESPN uses a huge amount of bias in their rankings of players, because most of these players in their TOP 50/100/150 come from the football hotbed states, instead of being a wide range. I think he's a terrible recruiter, and most of the kids who ended up at ND in his time there only went because it was Charlie Weis and Notre Dame football. You can argue my opinion on this, but I'm sticking with what I say about Charlie Weis and his recruiting, it was terrible.

Weis is a fantastic recruiter. Just because you think ESPN has a bias, then you must think Rivals, Scout, etc all do too. Those players weren't in ESPN's Top 50, etc because they aren't good.
Recruiting is not a science, its an art - as is the aspect of ranking the players by ESPN, et al. Charlie could recruit with the best of them, but he was never able to develop them properly to play for him. That, along with the pro-style defense he tried to use in college, is what doomed him.

Weis promised a nasty football team. He came to ND claiming that a 6-5 record wasn't good enough for ND and that he was going to change that kind of mediocre performance. He promised a "decided schematic advantage" against ND opponents. Merrillville's James Aldrich's dad during a Weis recruiting visit told the NWI Times that Weis told him that if he hasn't produced a national championship in four to five years that he should be fired. By his own standards, Weis failed in all respects. He was a good offensive guy but couldn't handle all the aspects of being a good college head football coach.
