right...so i'm just supposed to sit there and let these opposing players take their free throws in peace?? never! part of why i love sitting with my friends in the student section is to see what kind of effect our harassment will have on the free throw attempts. i just lost some respect for roy williams after this...

Several, at least 4 or 5, fans were ejected from the Purdue/Alabama game by the officials because of their conduct at the games. Truthfully, I've never understood why some people think buying a tickets allows them to become jerks....Same as I don't understand trying to show up your opponent during a game. ....Maybe I'm just from another generation

but there's a difference between the usual tactics like what we do and being a jackass. we do have a few of those from time to time, but thankfully it's never gotten to the point where we've had people kicked out.

At least not in your time... Also, a note about the Purdue/Alabama game, the official who kicked the fans out was "Quick Draw" Curtis Shaw - who also threw the Rice (I think) mascot out last year.

I don't know the facts of the North Carolina case, but I do know that fans sometimes have a tendency to abuse their opponents beyond what is acceptable. The problems to some degree is that the media (and I realize I am one of them) have at times made this out to be innocent and even noteworthy. (i.e. the Cameron Crazies) There is a difference between good natured kidding and abuse and that line gets crossed much to often. I haven't seen anything at Valpo over the years that I thought was totally out of line, except maybe some language , but that certainly isn't the case at some places. What the fan at North Carolina or the ones at Alabama actually did I don't know from television, but I have an idea that "beverages" may have been involved in some of it.

I can't satisfy the need for an the real scoop, but thebiglead.com/?p=31370 reveals at least 2 handfuls of people who claim to have been there. One handful claims he was obnoxious and drunk. The other handful claims just as sincerely that he was sober and polite. The video clip tends to support the latter handful, in my opinion. Neither handful is necessarily objective (I suspect the former handful are kool-aid drinking Tar Heel fans). There is, somewhere in the story, the claim that there were several Tar Heel fans sitting near him who all report that there was nothing obnoxious about him and that they were stunned to see him kicked out. On the other hand, I will admit that this whole story sounds too putrid to be true. But if there's a missing piece that makes Roy look better, I'm not seeing it yet. At the moment, this just seems like piling on, rubbing salt in an open wound, etc. Reminds me of an old Barney Miller episode when Grossman's Deli delivered lunch, Wojo found a fly in his sandwich, and ordered a health inspection which resulted in closing it down. Grossman comes into the 12th precinct waving the closure order and asking what happened and what he should do. He finds out Wojo was the one who called it in, and Barney tells him to renovate. He asks what this means, and Barney finally tells him to call the Health Dept. "Wonderful," yells Grossman, exasperated. "You throw me to the wolves, now I have to go ask them which parts they'd like to eat?" It's not enough his team is getting plastered and 90% of the arena is loving every minute of it, but he's supposed to sit there like he's in church when a Tar Heel shoots a FT? That's how this story is playing out right now. If there's more to the story, I'd be pleased to alter my impressions.

Reinforces a widely held opinion that Roy Williams is an ass.

Reinforces a widely held opinion that Roy Williams is an ass. That sure has been the one constant in all the on-line stuff I've read about this incident -- outside of Chapel Hill, of course. Not only that, much of the ridicule is coming from ACC rivals, ensuring that this story will have legs through March.
