Last Saturday, IUPUI's game at the O'Rena was on Fox College Sports. OU had an 11 point lead that got cut to 2 in the final minute. The Jaguars were pressing full court and Jonathan Jones got himself trapped in a triple team and called a timeout.
What then ensued was a lengthy delay while the officials tried to determine whether the 10-second violation preceded the calling of a timeout. After enduring this delay for a while, Ron Hunter got bored and went to chat with Kampe, only to be fended off by one of the refs (you're not allowed to do that, coachie!). Both Hunter and Kampe turned around and returned to their benches chuckling and rolling their eyes. As they turned back toward center court to wait patiently again, Hunter reached for a cell phone and gestured to Kampe, who threw up his arms with a smile (I don't have one of those, Ron, but nice try anyway).
The whole place enjoyed the hilarity, as did the two coaches.
P.S. Hunter actually got away with that antic at the ARC in 2003. I was there when he ran up and hugged Scott Drew during a break in the action. It was the day we clinched the #1 seed.

For all the buffoonery that Ron Hunter could cause when the clock was running, when there was a break in action, he could be entertaining or one of the coolest guys you'd ever meet. What he does on the court might be over the top, with all the foot and whining, which leads to him either breaking his foot or falling in public, which he commonly did at the ARC, but he's a good guy.
I wish I knew what he was doing for his shoe fundraising/donations this season, and had the money to give, because I would send money for a couple pairs of shoes.

I heard Ron Hunter and Tony Dungy attended the same church when Dungy was coach of the Colts in Indianapolis. It was a really moving experience in that church I heard. There were other famous people that attended the same church also.

Andy Katz has a write-up about the project on his ESPN blog. Also, Hunter has added a mission for those of you who live in Indiana. On the Thursday of Final Four Weekend, he is hoping to hand out 10,000 pairs of shoes to students from all around the state of Indiana. He discussed this with Katz also.
