WOW!!! That is a huge problem. It's good that IUPUI could punish themselves appropriately, and the source of the problem apparently left awhile ago anyway..

Is anyone surprised by this. Didn't we all think something was going on when we were in the conference with them and saw many of the athletes they were getting that others wouldn't recruit or couldn't recruit. Part of it has to do with being a state school, but the bulk of the problem is the school policy itself. Hopefully they will clean it up.

Really, rhl. Give me a few of the names. This had nothing to do with admissions. This was related to progess towards a degree. It sounds like student athletes across the spectrum were majoring in being eligible, on the road to nowhere. Which is sad.

I don't have any specifics, I just know that there were rumours bandied about when we were in the Mid-Con with them. apparently, there were some reason for concern....I have nothing against IUPUI, my daughter took here last year of Social Work there, so it's nothing against the school. It was just a comment based on the past. Sorry if you were offended.

Did anyone notice the brilliant timing of the announcement? While the whole Indy community and the nation was focused on a mid-major, hometown team, Butler, in the Final Four at Lucas Oil Stadium right there in Indy, IUPUI squeaks out an admission of guilt that almost no one pays attention to, especially the Indy sports community.

Just to add another interesting -- though perhaps inconsequential -- detail to the picture, Ron Hunter did a few spots on CBS College Sports, commentating on the NCAA tournament (along with 2 or 3 others -- sort of BBTN or ESPN College Gameday style) and took part in the Naismith award ceremony or some such thing on the same network during the Final Four.

My guess on this story about IUPUI and why it came out early in the week of the NCAA tournament is that most of the nation doesn't know where this little, commuter school is. The only thing most of them might know about IUPUI is that Ron Hunter is "the head coach who coaches one game a year in his bare feet". Other than that, most people are thinking, "Who? Where?"

Does that make 2003-04 a 19 win season for Valpo?

Does that make 2003-04 a 19 win season for Valpo? No, these wins were vacated, not forfeited...essentially saying that neither team won the game.
