I was wondering whether there is any effort going on to improve the quality of the athletic broadcasts. I am a regular viewer and many times I almost got sea sick from the stop and starts, let alone the fuzzy quality. I did turn in to a broadcast of the Lutheran basketball tournament and found that quality to be far superior. With more and more of us tuning in, an improved broadcast quality would be much appreciated! Thanks for all you do...

VU72-- If you can be a bit more specific it could provide valuable guidance to those working on the Internet feeds. The "broadcasts" are distributed through the Horizon League's network, and the same system is used for all league games. If you're having trouble with delivery of the signal (e.g., "stop and starts") with all HLN games, the problem could be with the RAM in your computer or the delivery of the information to you computer by your internet service provider. If it's the quality of camera work, the issue probably is at the local level. Valpo might be able to improve the quality of its camera work (or cameras -- albeit at a cost that may not be in the budget), but other improvements may rest with the HL. I've had an occasional problem with buffering (pauses and starts) for HL games from most venues, but not at a frequency that interferes with my ability to enjoy the game. There probably are people much more knowledgeable about computers on this board than I, but I believe the university's "hook up" with the internet is at a very high speed so the problem with stopping and starting may not start there.

Good questions. If you think there are people "much more knowledgeable about computers" than you, imagine how I feel!! The stopping and starting is a constant. Sometimes it is a few seconds, other times for 30 seconds or more. The camera work is OK, although ther have been times when the camera person went for a hotdog and left the camera pointing at a cheerleader!! The picture is fuzzy and I understand that that is simply a bandwidth issue. Improving the camera may not help for this very reason. My computer has 1.0 GB of RAM

Right, presumably this was a conscious choice on someone's (HLN's?) part. And has to do with how much bandwidth they're willing to buy for HLN. And, perhaps, how much bandwidth they think the viewers have available.
But, presumably the bitrate of the stream could be tuned. If the audience wants higher resolution, and there's money available to pay for it, etc.

remember, most of these conference networks charge a fee for their feeds...HLN does not. That probably has a lot to do with how much bandwidth they have available. The baseball feed was excellant as far as I could see. I don't see the basketball feeds from Valpo because I'm at the games, but I have heard they have some problems. Since I have been told the Lakeshore telecasts are much better, I would think it has something to do with the link at the ARC, but it might well be a combination of things

Instead of using the registry cleaning software they suggest I would use CCleaner. www.delete-computer-history.com/slow-streaming-video.htmlezinearticles.com/?Tweaks-to-Speed-Up-Internet-Streaming-Video&id=633068CCleanerFor those who are unfamiliar with how to use msconfig, CCleaner can also help you stop any unwanted or unneeded processes from loading at computer startup, a great tool and it is free!
