I find it interesting that there is some embarrassment within the university about the smut-play Vagina Monologues. The university promotes, or at least approves and allows this vile, unchristian play to take place on its campus. Liberal thinking people within the university embrace and champion this play and celebrate it. It is announced on the university website and everyone is invited. How progressive. Aren't we compassionate and forward thinking?
Yet it seems when the truth about what this play is and its content comes out from behind the OZ curtain, many elite liberal, open-minded university folks begin to wonder whether or not this play is in line with the values of a Lutheran university. To be sure, this is a play that one would expect to see on any secular university's campus without a single eyebrow raised. But in a Christian university? Perhaps Valpo U. is a C.U.I.N.O. (Christian university in name only)
Many who have read the play and have seen it have voiced their views. One can hardly disagree with my question:
Do you want your child/student watching the VU-sanctioned Vagina Monologues which embraces homosexuality, masturbation, adult lesbian relationships with teenagers(called good rape), sexual activity outside of marriage, and the chanting of C-U-N-T? Are these Christian values? Are these the values a Lutheran Christian university should be promoting?
Does the university really want to defend this smegma-fest? Does it truly believe this play is a good thing for women and the university? Do the ends justify the means? If so, why not just have a good old fashioned cat house on campus? Free sex to all those poor unattractive young men and women who never get any sex. Charge a hundred dollars a pop and donate the proceeds to a battered women's house here in Valpo. People would come (no pun intended) from all over. Yahoo! Have a good time.
Some pressure has already been brought to bear upon this question from within the university and from some alumni to get this issue away from the public eye. A subtle form of censorship is emerging. What the university does not want to face is a real dialog about this play. They just want it (and those like me who bring it center-stage and call for discussion) to go away.
Why are they embarrassed? They promote and allow it don't they? Perhaps they are embarrassed because they never thought anyone gave enough of a damn to bring this disgusting excuse for "art" to light. After all, no one would dare criticize something offered by the elites at Valpo U. would they?
I think there are many parents out there who want to send their children to a Christian university who if they knew that this kind of filth was being promoted and allowed on the university campus would not allow their kids to attend Valpo. And if I am right about that, don't you think the administration should take a second look at this? Don't you think they should ask whether or not this play is consistent with Lutheran values? Is this the only way to promote programs which condemn violence against women? I think not. Not for a "Christian" university. Ok for a C.U.I.N.O though.
