Big series this week against Butler. We are 5-0 in the Horizon, Butler is 4-0. Not too early to discuss the possibility of VU's first Horizon League championship, is it? The softball program has made amazing strides in the last 4-5 years. They are really good! This might be the best program we have going right now. Paul

The next 20+ games will be tough, with not any sure wins in the schedule. While some teams may have overall losing records, many have played tough schedules. Horizon softball is getting better each year as a number of schools have gotten behind the sport. If you check through some of the team sites, you will see there are wins over the likes of In.State, UNI, Wisconsin,IU, purdue,Kansas,Marshall,Notre Dame, & many more major programs. Not saying its a major conference, but it is certainly not a weak conference. Valpo has their work cut out for themselves & every game will count. While some people don't look at this as a young team, I see it as maybe the youngest team in the conference...especially considering their performance to date.
I wish them the best & will be cheering for them.

Congratulations. Why does it have to be this team versus that team within our university? Isn't it enough to wish softball luck and not have to compare them to other sports? A number of teams have made strides. Good luck this weekend softball. Go beat Butler.

I don't account the success of women's bowling in this, as we don't have other years to compare them to, and golf is getting into its true season right now. The rest of the sports are taking too much time on falling behind or trying to find that one improvement they need, and they aren't getting it. I am a fan of the softball program, and have been since Coach Schneider got to Valpo in my super senior year. He's a very knowledgeable coach and amazing to watch coach. The team is young, they are learning, and they are rewarding Coach with some big wins.

Strong statement. Womens soccer played in the championship game this year. Mens soccer finished third with the highest win total in program history. VB third. Softball hasn't got that far yet and we are so we'll see. I hope you're right and they win the first championship. I just hope it can be celebrated for what it is without having to put down the other sports.
Gotta get to work.

kkgrad...I think it just boils down to the fact that some of us are softball fans, others soccer or bb, etc. I do think we are ALL cheering for all Valpo teams & would like to see them succeed. Sometimes it gets a little frustrating when we don't get better, even more so if its your favorite sport or you have someone on the team. Valpo winning the softball conference would be tough in my opinion with a team this young, but stranger things have happened. I hope they make the conference tourney & in that you never know. By the way you are right on with soccer, I agree that last year both teams showed GREAT improvement & also have some good young players....GO VALPO TEAMS.

I admit it, I had completely forgotten about the soccer teams. I guess I'm so stuck on the regression from both basketball teams and the low roster numbers and confidence in our track and field/cross country teams.

Alex named "people's choice" winner for being named pitcher of the week, last week. Great honor for her & enjoyed the interview on HLN network. Go to our ath. page to hear. Big week coming up with 7 games, 4 non-conference & a very tough UIC team.
